Courtroom dramas make the most intelligent thrillers. Hearing two opposites sides involved in a battle of words, every argument seems like a cliff-hanger. The tense situation in the court and the adroit unfurling of truth makes it seem like the path to justice is a long way ahead.

Rustom
Based on the true story of Naval officer KM Nanavati, Akshay Kumar as Rustom Pavri becomes his own defender. The shrewdly planned killing of Vikram (Arjan Bajwa) who was having an affair with his wife Cynthia (Illeana D’Cruz) is shot meticulously. The movie is an extension highlighting the underbelly of corruption in the naval ranks.
Mulk
Taapsee Pannu and late actor Rishi Kapoor’s Mulk is a must-watch, which raises pertinent issues of terrorism that are otherwise brushed under the carpet. In the face of rising bigotry, the film makes a case for the minority Muslim families. When Murad Ali Mohammed’s (Rishi Kapoor) grandson is found culpable in a blast, it is a Hindu lawyer (Taapsee Pannu) who defends the family. The court proceedings showcase how common it is to stereotype one entire religious community due to the fault of a few members.
Aitraaz
Aitraaz is a 2004 sensational romantic thriller with an interesting courtroom drama. When Akshay’s Raj is falsely accused of rape by Sonia (Priyanka Chopra), with whom he once had an affair, he has to face court trial. Advocate Patel (Paresh Rawal) is ready to go to any lengths to character assassinate Raj. But it is Raj’s doting wife Priya who believes in his goodness and presents the truth with proof, proving Sonia guilty.
Court Martial
Very few movies present military court proceedings. Court Martial is one of those few gems. It is more than an open and shut case, which brings forth the evil of caste discrimination that is still so deeply embedded in our society. However, the story just does not revolve around army men, but it has a lot more to do with society in general.
Jazbaa
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is caught in the crossfire when she is forced to defend and free an accused as her own daughter is kidnapped. With a clear track record of having won every case, she finds herself in a dilemma as the kidnapper wants no ransom, but just the freedom of a rape-accused felon. As an emotional mother and a tough lawyer, Aishwarya pulls off an electric performance in Jazbaa along with Irrfan Khan’s role as a humorous inspector. Together they find their way out of this labyrinth.
Shahenshah
Shahenshah features Big B in a double roll – one as Vijay, the young police officer, and the other role as Shahenshah, who brings wrongdoers to justice. The last scene where Amitabh Bachchan with his iron hand drags the guilty and punishes Amrish Puri in the court makes this movie a cinematic delight.
Shaurya
Inspired by a Few Good Men, an American legal drama on the defence forces. Shaurya is a court-martial drama, where Rahul Bose and Javed Jaffrey play defence attorney and prosecutor to a cadet guilty of murder. They deal with a sensitive topic that ricochets between Kashmir and terrorism.
