Mahatma Gandhi, lovingly known as Gandhiji or Bapu, the only person who has been an inspiration for fighting towards freedom without being violent. As we celebrate his birthday, let us remember him and his presence. On the occasion of Bapuji’s birth anniversary, we bring you the list of actor who have played Gandhi Ji on-screen

Mahatma Gandhi fought for this country’s freedom without violence and today we are forever indebted to him. Bollywood also decided to pay a tribute to the father of the nation through his portrayal in films and here these actors brought him alive on screen

  1. Naseeruddin Shah

Legendary actor and Bollywood veteran, Naseeruddin Shah who has done films based on societal issues like Wednesday and China Gate, also portrayed the role of Gandhi in the movie Hey Ram. Naseeruddin Shah is a great actor and has done many roles effortlessly and here too, he played the role of Gandhiji very well. The movie was based on India’s partition and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse which put the nation in shock. 

 

Dilip Prabhavalkar

Lage Raho Munnabhai was a successful commercial film that almost won a nomination at the Academy Awards. It was one of the best films in Sanjay Dutt’s career and the whole nation was also inspired by Gandhi’s teachings. The world understood that even in today’s world his teachings could be put to use. Dilip Prabhavalkar played the role of Gandhiji very well and made us feel that it was actually Gandhiji we were watching on screen. He made the character believable.

Rajit Kapur 

Actor Rajit Kapur is known for the portrayal of Gandhi in Shyam Benegal’s The Making of the Mahatma, and he was not only applauded by critics and the many audiences who appreciated the film too. Rajit was selected to win awards for this film and was celebrated as a great actor that time. 

We thank Mahatma Gandhi for his struggle and for giving us the gift of freedom. Let us remember him this day and revere him.
