ZEE5 Original film, Comedy Couple was released on October 21, Wednesday. Since its release, the comedy-drama flick has been bagging praise and reactions. Comedy Couple’s cast ensemble has actors Saqib Saleem, Shweta Basu Prasad, Pooja Bedi, and Aadar Malik. The series revolves around the lives of Zoya and Deep–a stand-up comedy duo and real-life lovers. They are a laugh-riot on stage with their sharp and witty take on a variety of issues like relationship problems while grappling with them off-stage. Comedy Couple is helmed by Nachiket Samant.
The New Indian Express described Comedy Couple as ”Funny, skinny love”. Talking about our star cast Shweta Basu Prasad as Zoya and Saqib Saleem as Deep, they said that the duo makes a ”killer pair”. They further added, ”They bicker sharply but collaboratively – like actors in a play.” First Post said, ”Comedy Couple is not pretending to be progressive; it actually is.’ They describe the film as ‘remarkably observant and accurate.” First Post stressed on Comedy Couple’s script and dialogues, and wrote, ”an easy storytelling style and the largely true-to-life storyline are among the many factors that keep Comedy Couple engaging.”
Meanwhile, on the other hand, Times Of India praised the movie to be ”India’s first and only comedy couple”. They added, ”techie-turned-comic Deep Sharma and his romantic partner Zoya Batra always have their audience rolling with laughter, thanks to the silly yet relatable jokes they crack on stage.” Rediff suggests the audience watch the film for Saqib and Shweta’s chemistry. TOI quotes, ”Comedy Couple’ is your typical Bollywood rom-com with a fresh pair and even fresher central theme.”
With all the positive reviews coming in, Hindustan Times has something different to say. As per Hindustan Times’ review, ”Director Nachiket Samant manages slivers of brave and topical commentary on religious extremism, conservatism, unethical journalism and radical feminism with Comedy Couple but the anchor it hinges on–the romantic chaos of a Gurugram couple–is so weak, it dulls the effect by half.” The New Indian Express also has some criticising reviews for Zoya and Deep, ”likeable but not explosively funny – their jokes won’t make it past the Comicstaan audition rounds.”
