David Bowie’s lost album which was recorded in 2001, is set to be released this November by Parlophone records. The title of the album is ‘Toy’ and it celebrates the legacy of the great musician on his 75th birthday.

Imagine an album taking 20 years to come out! Well, it happened with the legendary singer-songwriter David Bowie. The musician recorded an album called ‘Toy’ in 2001 which was never published by the record company at the time.  Twenty years later, it is all set to be released on November 26, this year.

Who was David Bowie?

Late David Bowie was one of the most renowned, most influential musicians of the 20th century. One of the most powerful musicians of all time, Bowie recorded an album back in 2001.  Toy was also leaked online in 2011 and will be released in a three-CD box set on 7 January entirely.

What was the reason behind the delay?

‘Toy’ was made in 2001 in an ’old school’ style, with his band playing fully live. The intention was to release the album by surprise so as to leave fans star-struck. Unfortunately, it was later decided that the concept was not aligning with the theme in mind of the musician.

Release of another great album:

Consequently, David Bowie allegedly left it as it was for a while, and instead, started working on his next album called ‘Heathen’.

Heathen was a huge success and went on to sell more than one million copies worldwide.

‘Parlophone’, a record label, in a statement this Wednesday, explained the details about Toy. The upcoming album will be incorporated as part of the fifth installment of “box sets” from the artist’s discography titled, ‘David Bowie’s Brilliant Live Adventures’, which will cover all his big hits from 1992 to 2001.

Enrique Iglesias’ ‘Final’ to be his last album?

Mark Plati, David’s co-producer talks about David Bowie’s ‘lost album’, ‘Toy’ as, “a moment captured in an amber of joy, fire, and energy”. He added that he was very happy that it “belongs to all” and is still relevant, despite being leaked in 2011.

An extended version of the album, ‘Toy: Box’, will be released on January 7, 2022, in a box format, including a 16-page booklet featuring photographs of Bowie that have never been seen before.

The album is aimed at releasing one day before what would have been his 75th birthday. It is therefore viewed as a tribute to his legacy of being the greatest British musician of all time.
