Forbidden Love: 4 Films Exploring This Theme That You Need To Watch On ZEE5!

Check out these films while you wait for Arranged Marriage to be launched on the platform.

This September, ZEE5 brings you Forbidden Love an anthology of four short romantic thriller films which explore the darker, more ominous aspects of romantic relationships, as well as the taboos associated with certain kinds of romantic relationships. Infidelity, jealousy, and claustrophobia are just some symptoms of a relationship headed south, or signs that we may need to re-evaluate the relationships that we find ourselves in. Arranged Marriage, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, is one film from the series that you can watch from September 9 on ZEE5. As you wait for its release, here are some films that you can watch in the meantime that examine the concept of  ‘forbidden love.’

1. Season’s Greetings

Seasons Greetings is a ZEE5 Original short Hindi drama film starring actors Celina Jaitly and Lillette Dubey. The story is set in Kolkata and revolves around Romita (Celina Jaitley), who decides to introduce her live-in-partner to her mother Suchitra one day. She is apprehensive, but little does she know that her mother has a bigger surprise in store for her!

2. Aligarh

Aligarh is a 2016 Hindi biography drama film starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao. Based on a real-life incident, the film brings to light the trials and tribulations of a marginalised homosexual community in a rigid Indian society. The plot centres around professor Ramchandra Siras of Aligarh Muslim University, who gets suspended because of his sexual orientation. This critically acclaimed film bagged Manoj Bajpayee the Filmfare Critics’ Award for Best Actor.

3. Antarale

Antarale is a ZEE5 Bengali Original film produced by renowned filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, and stars actor Amrutha Srinivasan in the lead role. The film is a thriller drama about a young urban couple whose arranged marriage goes horribly wrong when the wife accidentally kills her husband. This sets off a chain of events that eventually reveal the true colours of every character involved in the marriage.

4. Mushk

Mushk is a Hindi play starring Nimra Bucha and Sania Saeed in the lead. Zoya, a journalist, arrives to interview Sophiya, a novelist. They soon discover that they have something in common with each other. They realise that the meaning of love is not always clear and that things are certainly not as they seem.
