Jackie Shroff, Bollywood’s Jaggu Dada, celebrates his 64th birthday today. Making his debut in 1982, Jackie Shroff was a star of the 80s. From his very first film as a lead actor, he earned a huge fan following and became a heartthrob. Let us begin with the film that he began with, as a lead actor. Hero was Jackie Shroff’s big break in the Hindi film industry. Despite it being his first lead role, Jackie Shroff’s acting was perfect and extremely effective. His stance as the Hero and his chemistry with Meenakshi Sheshadri in the film is still considered one of the best in Bollywood.

Fun fact: Jackie Shroff’s real name is Jai Kishan Shroff and he was nicknamed Jackie in his school. When director Subhash Ghai cast him as the lead in his film Hero, he chose to use the nickname Jackie as his screen name and it got stuck well with the audiences.

Karma

Jackie Shroff worked again with Subhash Ghai in Karma. He is the lead in the film along with Anil Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah. The film also stars veteran actor Dilip Kumar and Anupam Kher as the antagonist. Jackie’s performance as Baiju Thakur was praised and is loved till today. The film has aged well with the audiences with its patriotic song, ‘Har Karam Apna Karenge’, still being people’s favourite.

Ram Lakhan

Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor soon became a very loved pair in Bollywood. They appeared in multiple films together and their most loved film till today is Ram Lakhan. Jackie Shroff played the role of the elder brother Ram, who was a police inspector, and on a journey to avenge his father’s death in a righteous way. Anil Kapoor’s Lakhan was on the same journey, but unlike his brother, not righteously. Jackie Shroff’s chemistry with Dimple Kapadia in this film was also loved by the audience.

Another Subhash Ghai directorial, Khalnayak starred Sanjay Dutt in the lead role and Jackie Shroff in the supporting role. Jackie Shroff was nominated for the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor for this film.

Yaadein was a drama film directed by Subhash Ghai. Based on the 1964 film Woh Kaun Thi, Laat Saab is a mystery thriller film starring Jackie Shroff and Neelam. The film is directed by Sunil Agnihotri. Jackie Shroff in Laat Saab plays the role of Vijay, who is on a journey to find his girlfriend, who is claimed to have died way before she even met him.
