While the world celebrated Father’s Day on June 20 in the US, it is celebrated on the first Sunday of September in Australia.  The tweet that Hugh Jackman posted read, “In the early hours of Father’s Day (AU), my Dad peacefully passed away. And whilst there is deep sadness, I’m filled with such gratitude and love. My Dad was, in a word, extraordinary. He devoted his life to his family, his work and his faith. I pray he’s now at peace with God.”

Christopher Jackman was believed to be in his mid-80s. Grace, Hugh Jackman’s mother left the family when he was eight years old. It was Christopher who raised Hugh Jackman’s brother’s Ian and Ralph single-handedly in Sydney, Australia. After spliting up with Hugh Jackman’s father, Grace moved to the UK in the late 1970s with sisters Sonya and Zoe.

Hugh Jackman and father were close

Hugh Jackman in a tweet had heaped praises on his father on Father’s Day last year too. The tweet read, “My Father taught me to always keep my promises … Even if it turns out there’s a better option or something that will benefit me more. Always be true to your word. #HappyFathersDay.”

The post brought forth an outpouring of grief with netizens comforting Hugh Jackman in his hour of grief. Some fans shared the pain of losing their father early and also recalled how the actor held Christopher in high esteem. Others were more understanding in accepting that their condolences would matter little at this point.

One fan pointed, “Your Dad seemed like a really lovely man. The world is a little poorer whenever someone so decent passes.” A true Brit born there, Christopher, a Cambridge-educated accountant, had migrated to Australia. Although Hugh Jackman was born in Australia, he is a British citizen and holds a British passport. Jackman’s latest film appearance was in Warner Bros’ sci-fi movie Reminiscence with Rebecca Ferguson and Thandiwe Newton as his co-stars. He is penciled in to appear in filmmaker Florian Zeller’s The Son where he will share the screen with Laura Dern and Vanessa Kirby.
