Kumkum Bhagya’s Prachi-Ranbir-Rhea Remind Us Of Cady-Aaron-Regina From Mean Girls

Zee Tv’s popular serial Kumkum Bhagya stars Sriti Jha as Pragya and Shabir Ahluwalia as Abhi in the lead roles. Pragya and Abhi’s daughters Prachi (Migdha Chaphekar) and Rhea (Pooja Banerjee) have been in love with the same man, Ranbir (Krishna Kaul), for a very long time. While Prachi and Ranbir have feelings for each other but are unable to get together as a couple due to many complications, Rhea has been trying to get married to him despite knowing that he doesn’t love her. This trio and their complicated love story definitely remind us of the Hollywood movie Mean Girls and its characters Cady (Lindsay Lohan), Aaron (Jonathan Bennett) and Regina (Rachel McAdams).

In Mean Girls, Cady is the new girl in high school and she meets The Plastics on her second day, who are the gossip loving queen bees of the school. Their leader Regina is an extremely evil-minded and manipulative woman who thinks she is superior to everyone else in the school. Cady starts liking Aaron, Regina’s ex-boyfriend, and when Regina gets to know about it, she devises a plan to embarrass Cady. She leads Cady to believe that she will set her up with Aaron but at a Halloween party, Regina kisses him in front of Cady and gets into a relationship with Aaron.

Doesn’t this plot sound familiar? It is so because in Kumkum Bhagya we have our very own version of Mean Girls in Prachi, Ranbir and Rhea. Just like Cady, our Prachi is also a simple, kind-hearted girl who has always seen the good in people around her. She has always sacrificed her love and relationship for her family and has been a very good daughter and sister. Rhea, on the other hand, is a spoilt brat just like Regina and she is extremely jealous of Prachi because she gets love from everyone in the Mehra house. Remember how she tried to embarrass Prachi by making a fake video of hers? Ranbir loves Prachi and has even confessed his feeling to her but time and again he gets manipulated by Rhea and fails to get married to his ladylove.

In Mean Girls, Regina gets jealous of Cady and fakes a promise to Cady that she will help her talk to Aaron and establish a friendship after knowing that she loves Aaron. At the Halloween party, Regina purposely kisses Aaron in front of Cady so that she gets hurt. In Kumkum Bhagya, Rhea seems to take lessons from Regina as she too gets jealous of Prachi and manipulates Ranbir to pretend to fall in love with Prachi and then break her heart. Rhea has time and again portrayed a similar personality as Regina’s and has created a rift between Prachi and Ranbir.

While in Mean Girls, Cady and Aaron overcome all the misunderstandings and get together in the end, while Regina focuses on herself, we are yet to see the same happen in Kumkum Bhagya. We hope just like Aaron and Cady, Prachi and Ranbir can also defeat all the hurdles in their life and get married in future, and Rhea can leave them alone and focus on building a better personality and life for herself.
