Noted filmmaker-writer Sumitra Bhave breathed her last early Monday morning in Pune. Aged 78, Bhave was suffering from a lung infection and was kept under observation at a private hospital. Reportedly, until January, Bhave was working on a project ‘Happy Lives Of Old People’ along with veteran star Mohan Agashe. After which, her health deteriorated and she was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pune.

Bhave was the face of Marathi parallel cinema with many interesting projects under her name. Along with filmmaker Sunil Sukhthankar, she worked on many off-beat yet relevant films. From directing India’s first film based on RTI, ‘Ek Cup Chya’ to portraying the sensitive issue of depression through the 2017 flick ‘Kaasav’, Bhave’s noteworthy filmography has inspired many young talents. She solely and successfully led the Marathi parallel cinema.
