The latest blockbuster starring Jeet, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan is a phenomenal piece of work that you just cannot miss. Read on to know why!

The latest Bengali film Asur, starring JeetAbir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan in the lead roles, has been earning rave reviews by film critics and fans since its release in theatres in January 2020. Directed by Pavel Bhattarjee, who has previously made the film Rosogolla, Asur just made its digital premiere on ZEE5, giving you yet another opportunity to catch the masterpiece that you certainly do not want to miss! Watch the trailer here:

The story of the film is based on Ramkinkar Baij, and Asur does full justice in paying tribute to the great sculptor. Jeet plays the role of Kigan, a genius of an artist with plenty of eccentricities, who sets out on a mission to create the best work of his life — a gigantic idol of Goddess Durga that will tower above everything else in Kolkata’s Deshbandhu Park. He is inspired by his imaginary muse, Durga as a young girl, who frequents his daily existence. To help him in his quest, Kigan seeks the help of his friend Aditi (played by Nusrat), whose father heads the committee of Deshbandhu Park. Their plan makes Bodhi, Aditi’s husband (played by Abir) become wildly insecure and prompts demons in his mind to rear their ugly heads.

Asur the film itself stands out as a giant from other films because of so many elements that come together in perfect harmony to create nothing short of an epic in Bengali cinema. The storyline is extremely well-written, with artistic nuances that explore the various shades of grey inherent in human beings whose tendencies and virtues can hardly be characterised as black and white. The title of the film is a direct reference to the demon that Goddess Durga fought and connotes to the evil lurking within us and what situations might trigger us to act from here. The complexity written into each character is a refreshing change from the cliched villain-hero tropes that we are accustomed to watching onscreen.

The love-hate triangle between the trio of Kigan, Aditi and Bodhi fuel the action and thrills in the film’s plot, and Pavel’s fabulous direction must be commended for its impeccability. The performance by all the actors is also laudable and it is what holds up the characters and carries the script flawlessly. In fact, many of Jeet’s fans consider this one to be the best performance of his career yet. Abir too, does a marvellous job, per his usual standard! Nusrat also delivers a stellar performance as Aditi.

The musical score of the film by Bickram Ghosh is outstanding and the songs too, make for an entertaining experience overall. Asur finishes with a highly climactic ending in the last 20 minutes over a series of slick sequences that will leave you surprised, satisfied and completely in awe! So be sure to catch this film that is now streaming on the ZEE5 platform.
