King Janak gets disappointed when none of the kings present, at the swayamvar, were able to lift the Shiv Dhanush. Laxman announces that his elder brother Ram can easily lift the Shiv Dhanush. To save Sita's honour, Sage Vishwamitra asks Ram to lift the Shiv Dhanush. The kings present at the swayamvar get shocked when Ram not only lifts the Shiv Dhanush but also breaks it. Sita puts the garland around Ram's neck. Lord Parashurama barges inside the palace and angrily questions the kings who broke the Shiv Dhanush. Sage Vishwamitra recognises Lord Parashurama. Ram states that he broke the Shiv Dhanush. In anger, Lord Parashurama states that he is going to kill everyone present in the palace. Laxman tells Lord Parashurama that the Shiv Dhanush was old and hence it broke when Ram lifted it. Sage Vishwamitra requests Lord Parashurama to forgive Ram and Laxman. Ram apologises to Lord Parashurama on behalf of Laxman. He also tells Lord Parashurama that he broke the Shiv Dhanush.
