Taylor Swift’s Cats: Everything you need to know about her three furry BFFs

Taylor Swift’s fondness for kitties isn’t legend. Anyone who follows the 31-year-old singer on social media knows she is a cat lover. Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button, all named after fictitious personalities in TV and movies, are the Grammy winner’s three feline pals.

The singer’s affinity for cats was evident in her appearance in the 2019 film Cats, which is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatrical musical of the same name. Taylor described her cats as “little lazy bears” while speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the film’s New York premiere, stating, “My cats are gorgeously round and furry, and they look like little lazy bears.” They’re always snoozing.”

Taylor received Meredith Grey, a Scottish Fold named after Ellen Pompeo’s character in Grey’s Anatomy, in 2011. Meredith had previously been characterised by the “Cardigan” singer as a “private” cat. After fans were concerned about Meredith’s location after she stopped appearing on her social media channels, Taylor responded with a video message on Twitter in April. Olivia Benson is a Scottish Fold Taylor received in 2014, named after Mariska Hargitay’s character on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Olivia is a star in her own right, having appeared in Taylor Swift’s 2014 Diet Coke ad and the music video for “Blank Space.” She also starred in the music video for “ME!” Yes, Olivia Benson, the cat, has met her namesake. Taylor released footage of Olivia meeting Mariska, who was in attendance, backstage at one of her gigs in 2015. Mariska and Ellen (Meredith Grey) both made appearances in the star-studded video for “Bad Blood” that year.

Benjamin Button is a Ragdoll cat named after Brad Pitt’s character in the film The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, unlike the singer’s other two animals. Taylor adopted him in 2019 after meeting him while filming her “ME!” music video with Meredith and Olivia, which also included a number of cats. During an Instagram Live with Brendon following the release of the song video that year, Taylor described how she brought the small boy home.
