Ranbir Kapoor recently spoke about assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Black. The way Sanjay trained him on set, according to Ranbir, equipped him for actual life. After working as an assistant director on Black, Ranbir was cast opposite Sonam Kapoor in Sanjay’s Saawariya. For his role in the movie, he got the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Ranbir Kapoor chimed in on if what the financial component of movies takes priority over originality, addressing at an occasion in Delhi after his uncle Randhir Kapoor remarked that ‘the Raj Kapoor age of films is finished.’ Randhir described how, during the filming of Bobby, Raj ‘didn’t estimate finances’ and had the Gulmarg roofs colored for the movie.

Ranbir concurred in part but supported today’s filmmakers as well. He did not imply that his generation of directors is solely focused on the economic element. “Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali treated him like an assistant director when he worked with him on Black. He used to beat him, he used to humiliate him, and got Ranbir kneeling for hours. It only strengthens you and equips you for life,” he explained.

Ranbir is currently preparing for the release of Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, the first installment in a planned mystical trilogy. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Dimple Kapadia, and is his debut on-screen collaboration with Alia Bhatt. The superstar was recently in Delhi with the team for a special fan gathering celebrating the film’s motion poster premiere.
