Actor turned politician Urmila Matondkar has decided to change the political party she belongs to. The actor stood for 2019 elections through Congress and has now decided to leave the party. According to the reports of PTI, she will be joining Shiv Sena in December. Here’s everything you need to know about the actor-turned-politician’s change in the party.

According to the reports of PTI, a source from Shiv Sena informed them that Urmila Matondkar will soon be joining Shiv Sena on December 1. She had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate and quit the party later. On November 29, in the presence of Uddhav Thackerey, Harshal Pradhan, a close aide of Maharashtra Chief Minister said that she will be joining very soon. The name of Urmila Matondkar and other 11 candidates have been sent to the governor BS Koshyari for the nomination of the Legislative Council from the governor’s quota.

When Urmila Matondkar had previously contested through Congress, she had raised many eyebrows with her campaign. However, she proved to be unsuccessful in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North constituency as a Congress candidate. She stood against MLA Gopal Shetty who already had a good hold on Mumbai’s politics. She lost the elections by a huge margin against him. But she quit the party after she started feeling that the political party had its own in-house politics which she was annoyed by.

Urmila Matondkar had also made headlines when she spoke about her views on Kangana Ranaut comparing Mumbai with Pakistan occupied Kashmir and nepotism. Urmila had commented on Kangana Ranaut calling out the entire film industry. She mentioned that Kangana has had a successful career and the industry had given her much, yet she decided to destroy its reputation. While talking about the drug issue in India, Urmila asked Kangana if she knew that her home state Himachal was the origin of drugs. Kangana was offended by a few of Urmila’s statements and asked her to apologise on social media. Matondkar did not hesitate to apologise for her comments later.
