Anurag Basu Reacts On Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif Starrer Jagga Jasoos’ Debacle; Says, ‘The Film Is Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea’

Jagga Jasoos director Anurag Basu talks about his film and says that it wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea. He also said that its digital release was much appreciated by the right audience

Bollywood director Anurag Basu recently won the Best Director award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2021 for his film Ludo that is an anthology dark comedy film. It was one of the most loved films given by the director. Basu agreed that a film like Ludo getting the audience love proves that their understanding and acceptance of unique subjects has changed.

Anurag Basu talked about his film Jagga Jasoos to a leading daily. The film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif failed to impress the audience. Jagga Jasoos took a theatrical release in 2017, but unfortunately, it did not kindle with the audience.

Anurag Basu, while talking about the movie, he said that Jagga Jasoos was received well when it had its digital debut in 2019. He also thinks that the audience understood it better there. Talking more about the film he said that he didn’t make the film without flaws but Jagga Jasoos is not everybody’s cup of tea, and the audience it was made for, maybe didn’t come to the theatre. Through digital release, it reached the right audience and received appreciation.

He went on to add that one day when he opened his Twitter he came across a positive fan’s reaction. Anurag Basu also said that he is wondering if Jagga Jasoos had been released today, it would’ve worked better or not. If he had made an exceptionally universal film, then it would’ve worked at any given time, is what he said later.

Talking about Jagga Jasoos, marked Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s last film together. They ended their relationship while they were shooting for Anurag Basu’s movie. Most parts of the film were shot in Cape Town and, South Africa. Jagga Jasoos was been produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu, and Ranbir Kapoor. The film told the story of a teenage detective who is in the search of his missing father.
