Rajiv’s untimely demise has saddened the B-town and has gotten everyone talking about the Kapoor clan and their contribution to Indian Cinema for ages. Just like Rajiv, there have been many members from the Kapoor Khandan who either chose to stay away from the spotlight or did opt for other fields apart from the showbiz industry.
So here’s taking a look at some unknown members of the Kapoor clan who either chose a different path or preferred to be away from the limelight.
Superstar Shashi Kapoor and his India settled wife Jennifer Kapoor’s youngest son Karan Kapoor chose the art of photography. Karan never tried his hand in the film industry and went to research about Anglo-Indian communities across the globe. His articles were also published in BBC, Indian Express, and other publications. Karan often organizes photography exhibitions in Mumbai.
Celebrated filmmaker-actor Raj Kapoor’s first daughter Ritu Kapoor stayed away from the limelight and showed a keen interest in entrepreneurship. After her marriage with Rajan Nanda, Ritu explored her passion and went on to be a successful businesswoman. Last year in January, Ritu’s sudden demise left the Kapoor family in shock.
Shashi Kapoor’s elder son Kunal Kapoor went on to star in various Hindi films in the late 70s and early 80s. The actor didn’t receive enough fame and hence always remained away from the media’s gaze. His recent appearance was in the 2019 film Panipat which featured Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.
Raj Kapoor’s younger daughter Rima Jain leads a very private life and hence she has never been into the spotlight. However, Rima’s son Armaan Jain starred in the Bollywood film Lekar Hum Deewana Dil and her second son, Aadar Jain, starred in Qaidi Band.
Late Rajiv Kapoor’s ex-wife Aarti Sabharwal was an architect and they both got married in 2001. However, due to various differences, their marriage didn’t work out and ended with divorce in 2003. Reportedly, Aarti is in Canada now.
Shashi Kapoor’s daughter Sanjana Kapoor is a theatre actress in Mumbai. She also looked after the working of Prithvi theatre from 1993 to 2012. After starring in various films including Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay, Sanjana went on to act in many plays.
Kunal Kapoor’s son Zahan starred in the English film Siddhartha and also in the Shyam Benegal’s film Junoon. The actor did start well in the beginning but found it quite difficult to paddle big in the Hindi film industry and hence remains to be a lesser-known Kapoor.
Shashi Kapoor’s granddaughter Aliya Kapoor too stays away from the spotlight just like her father Karan. Aliya lives in London and often visits her family in Mumbai. It is yet unclear if she will pursue her career in the film industry or if she has a different choice of profession.
Aadar and Armaan Jain
Rima Jain’s sons, unfortunately, had bad luck in Bollywood. While Armaan has now opened his own restaurant, Aadar is still trying his luck in the industry. He’s also dating famous actress, Tara Sutaria and the couple is apparently very serious about each other.
These were the ‘Kapoors’ who stayed away from the glamorous world of Hindi Cinema. While some of them tried their best in the film industry, the others had different plans.
