India celebrates its 72nd Republic Day today. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has altered the celebration a bit, but this did not deter the spirit of our fellow Indians. So even if there are still restrictions on the Republic Day celebrations, you can be part of India’s patriotic spirit by watching films and shows that mimic this emotion. Watch these movies and shows and celebrate Republic Day 2021 with your countrymen.
1. Uri-The Surgical Strike
Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam starrer Uri – The Surgical Strike is no doubt one of the best films you can watch on Republic Day. The film is based on true events and revolves around the surgical strike conducted by India. The film became immensely popular among the masses and was a blockbuster film.
2. Parmanu
Parmanu is another film that is based on true events. The John Abraham and Diana Penty starrer is based on the true story of India’s 1988 Pokharan nuclear test. The test helped India become a nuclear power country. The test also went down as America’s greatest intelligence failure.
3. Upkar
Upkar is 1967 film starring Asha Parekh, Manoj Kumar, and Prem Chopra. In the film, a patriotic man works hard and supports his younger brother and educates him. After returning from abroad, this younger brother is nothing like his elder expected him to be. When the India-Pakistan war breaks out, the elder brother chooses to join the army and serve his nation.
4. Holiday
This 2014 action thriller stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Sumeet Raghavan. This film is a remake of the Tamil film, Thupakki. Holiday revolves around a soldier named Virat who returns home for a vacation. But after he witnesses a bomb blast in Mumbai, he starts investigating the sleeper cells operating in the city and plans to destroy them.
5. Paltan
Paltan is 2018 action drama film that is also based on true events. It boasts of an ensemble star cast consisting of Harshvardhan Rane, Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary and many others. The action-drama film is based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La war between the Indian and the Chinese army.
6. Mission Over Mars
Mission Over Mars is a 2019 drama series that is based on the tale of four women from ISA (ISRO’s namesake) who are working to start India’s Mars Mission. The web series also focuses on the personal lives of these four female scientists and how they still manage to work and begin a new journey for their country.
7. State of Siege
State of Siege is another show that you can binge on this Republic Day. It revolves around the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks from 2008. It focuses on the 60 hours that show how the National Security Guard take back control of the situation and rescue India from one of the deadliest terrorist attacks that we ever witnessed.
8. Jhansi Ki Rani
Jhansi Ki Rani is an epic historical drama series that was telecasted on Zee TV back in 2009. The show represents the life of Jhansi Ki Rani right from childhood to her marrying the King of Jhansi at the age of 14 and then fighting the British. This Zee show stars Ulka Gupta, Kartika Sengar, Sameer Dharmadhikari, and Amit Pachori.
9. Jeet Ki Zid
Jeet Ki Zid is an Amit Sadh starrer drama series that should be part of your Republic Day watchlist. The show is based on the life of Major Sengar who gets injured during the Kargil War. This injury disables him from the hip down and makes him wheelchair-bound for life. But Amit Sadh as Major Sengar defeats every challenge that comes its way and emerges as a winner in the end.
10. Codename Gondya
Codename Gondya is another ZEE5 Original show that you can binge on Republic Day. The 10-episode series is based on true events and revolves around the assassination of British plague commissioner W.C. Rand. The show focuses on how Pune’s Chapekar Brothers assassinated the commissioner for his oppressive of dealing with the plague.
