Dwarika finds out that Nagen visited the Annapurna temple site and decides to guard it. However, Kumudini worries that Nagen may be plotting against them. Nagen who has asked the British to demolish the temple’s lion gate rejoices in his home. Meanwhile, at the temple, Gadadhar notices that the `tantriks’ are misusing their powers to mislead innocent people who come to visit them rather than pray to Ma Kali. Later, he sees Tantrik Chandrabodhan holding a young girl’s hand and looking at her with lust-filled eyes. He decides he cannot allow this sin to take place within the temple’s premises.
Gadadhar sits deep in prayer at the Kali mandir while Haran Thakur reaches the temple site and says he will do the `bhit puja’ for the Annapurna temple. Gadadhar gets a vision that Dwarika’s stole catches fire and decides to go there immediately. Meanwhile, as Haran Thakur offers ghee oblation a spark files and sets Dawarika’s stole ablaze. Kumudini douses the fire with Gangajal and saves Dwarika’s life but he falls down unconscious. Finally, Gadadhar manages to revive him with his prayers. Gadadhar says there is someone who doesn’t want the temple to be built here and they should stop the puja for now.
When Hriday goes to give the `Mangal Ghat’ or holy pot to be used for the `bhit’ puja to Dwarika, it falls and breaks. Dwarika is surprised how if fell even though he had held the pot. Gadadhar feels this is ominous and goes to the temple to pray. Jagadamba gets worried but Dwarika says he will go ahead with the `bhit’ puja. Dwarika tells her that since Gadadhar will be doing the puja, he will deal with any untoward incident that happens during the puja.
Nagen promises Haran Thakur more money than he earns in an entire year if he spies on Gadadhar for him and finds out where he has kept Kumudini. He tells him that after he finds out he must tell him in advance about it so he can get eminent people from society to the temple and expose Gadadhar and have him removed. Later, Nagen meets Rudreshwar and instigates him against Gadadhar. When Rudreshwar says he must pray to Ma Kali to understand how Gadadhar performed the miracles at his site the previous night and how he managed to take away all his powers.
Rudreshwar refuses to believe that Ma Kali is angry with him. He blames Gadadhar for plunging his prayer site into darkness. He tells Gadadhar that only if he succeeds in lighting up all the lamps will he be allowed to leave with Kumudini. Gadadhar tells him that Ma Kali is the very source of light in the universe and if she wants, she will light up all the lamps in an instant. He prays to Ma Kali to not just light up the prayer site but enlighten the minds of the believers who worship her here. After he completes his prayer, the lights of the prayer site light up. Then suddenly a fire encircles the Idol, and an angry Ma Kali appears. Rudreshwar is both frightened and awe struck to see Ma Kali in this form. But Gadadhar begs Ma Kali to return to her maternal benevolent form and not destroy everything. Ma Kali is pacified, and the raging fires disappear. Gadadhar takes an unconscious Kumudini to his house and tells Sarada and Hriday not to tell anyone that she is there.
Raghob gets a doctor to see Dwarika. The doctor gives him an injection to bring down his fever and make him conscious but warns that his depression could prove fatal. Later, Gadadhar prays to Ma Kali asks her to stop the injustice being done to Kumudini. When the lamps and the `yagna’ fire at Rudreshwar’s prayer site goes out, everyone is shocked. But Rudreshwar refuses to accept defeat and lights a camphor on the palm of his hand with his `mantra’. Gadadhar warns him that he will lose all his powers if he misuses them. But confident of abilities Rudreshwar tells Gadadhar he will light the lamps again with his powers and prove him wrong. This time however, his `mantras’ and rituals don’t work and the lamps don’t light up. Rudreshwar then challenges Gadadhar to light up the lamps.
Nagen comes with two eminent priests to Dakshineswar temple and asks them to issue a decree that no one will visit the temple unless Gadadhar is removed from the temple. They accuse Gadadhar of being a heretic and a fraud. When Dwarika comes to the temple to defend Gadadhar a fight breaks out between Nagen and Dwarika and Nagen decides to kill Dwarika with a sword while his guards hold him captive. Gadadhar prays to Ma Kali to stop the fight and she appears in his form. Seeing Gadadhar in Ma Kali’s form, Nyayratna falls at his feet and asks for forgiveness.
When Ma Kali tells Gadadhar that his `sadhana’ in the maternal form is complete, Gadadhar tells her he wants to worship her in this form before ending his `sadhana’. She grants him his wish. Meanwhile, Dwarika invites Gadadhar to do Ma Durga’s `Sandhi Puja’ at Janbazzar. Gadadhar comes dressed as a woman to do the puja. While Dwarika has no objection, Trilokya objects to Gadadhar doing the puja. Raghob explains how Gadadhar proved many people wrong in the past when they witnessed his divine powers.
When Jogen’s husband landlord Ambikacharan comes in search of Gadadhar in an inebriated state. Haran Thakur objects and wants him to be removed from the temple premises. However, Gadadhar tells everyone that he is his friend, and they plan to get intoxicated together. Gadadhar gets alcohol for him and pours it out while chanting Ma Kali’s name and the alcohol turns to milk. When Ambikacharan drinks it, he becomes sober. Even when he drinks the alcohol from his own bottle, it has the same effect. Gadadhar tells him he will give him something stronger and takes him to the Radha-Krishna temple. As Gadadhar sings, Ambikacharan stands rooted to his position.

He fears Padma may see the scattered jewellery and get angry and tries to wake up Kumudini. Kumudini wakes up and starts screaming thinking it’s a thief. She inadvertently sees Dwarika’s face. Trilokya says this could bring ill fortune on the family. When Kumudini worries about this, Annada tells her to pray to Ma Kali.
