Top Bollywood Financer Yusuf Lakdwala Passes Away
ಮನರಂಜನೆBollywood financer and well-known builder Yusuf Lakdawala passed away at Arthur Road jail. He was 76 years old and suffering from cancer.
Lakdawala was lodged at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail with an Enforcement Directorate (ED) land grabbing case. He got arrested in May, for a case of money laundering and for forging the documents related to land worth Rs 50 crore, situated in the Khandala area of Pune.
The case was registered against him and others by the ED. The ED had opposed Lakdawala’s bail plea on medical grounds in August this year.
He was earlier admitted to the prison hospital on September 6 and was moved to the JJ hospital on Wednesday morning after his situation deteriorated. He breathed his last on Thursday at the JJ Hospital. The prison authorities got information about his death on Thursday afternoon.
Besides financing some big Bollywood films, he is best known for co-producing the film Yalgaar, which starred Feroze Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Manisha Koirala. Yusuf Lakdwala is survived by his wife Noorie, son Feroze, and daughter Reshma.
The authorities do not suspect any foul play; however, they are yet to assert the cause of his death. Officials are expected to take an accidental death report.
