Kunal Ravi Khemu is an actor who has been winning hearts since his childhood. Kunal has given memorable performances in movies like Kalyug, Traffic Signal, Go Goa Gone and Lootcase. In all his movies, the actor has never failed to show his impeccable acting skills.
Kunal Khemu is a Kashmiri Pandit, and he, too, is among those who had to leave their lives in Kashmir. He was six at the time and has memories of those days, hearing gunshots and blasts and seeing people in fear & misery. He had a tough time in school for some time when he couldn't make friends there. But, the actor lives by the phrase, "You can get us out of Kashmir, but can't get Kashmir out of us." Kunal Khemu has never said anything provocative against Muslims because he has moved on and believes that won't do any good to anybody.
When Kunal was a kid, his parents were working in the Doordarshan show Gul Gulshan Gulfam. The director of the show was working on another show Chitra Kathaien which had a mother-son story. Playing the role with his mother, he started his acting career on TV.
Then Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke happened when he was at his aunt's place in Delhi, and someone asked his father if they could cast him. His father called and asked if he wanted to be an actor, and he said yes.
Doing films as a child artist, he and his parents never thought of it as a profession. They thought he would eventually grow up to be a doctor or an engineer. He would be a pure devil outside the sets. But when on sets, he used to be very silent and serious for his age. His curious mind used to observe and take in everything about filmmaking. Everyone used to say that he looked like a professional.
His acting skills, even as a kid, were at par with Aamir Khan in Raja Hindustani. But it was during the filming of Zakhm when he thought that he should give himself and acting a chance. Kunal acted so well that he stole the show, got critical acclaim, and was called the "wonder boy" by Mahesh Bhatt.
But then, at the age of fourteen, Kunal Khemu took a break from movies to focus on his studies. He returned to the screen with an amazing performance in Kalyug.
The actor has shown that he has the potential to portray characters of all colours. He has seen his ups & downs, but his performance has always gone up. Be it a negative, positive, or grey character, a hit movie, or a flop one, his performances have always been terrific. But for some reason, he has hardly ever gotten a lot of films or been a part of some really big projects.
Moreover, he appears in movies with a break of two or more years. After such a long gap, even he feels like a newcomer in the industry before the picture's release. Though he is content with his journey in Bollywood and thankful for whatever he has got, he feels his potential is still untapped. He can do more, and the industry knows it. That's why he feels that he is underutilized, not underrated.
It might feel like the brilliant actors and relatives, Kunal & Saif, would discuss work projects and make career decisions together. But that is not the case. Kunal and Saif do discuss what the upcoming project is about and how they feel about it. But that is all there is to it. Kunal does not talk about whether he should do a certain role or not; or what he should do to further his career.
Kunal Khemu and Soha haven't been seen together on the screen since Mr. Joe B. Carvalho, where Kunal had a cameo role. Their fans have been demanding them on screen together. But Kunal says that they won't do a film together just because they are offered it. They both have to like their roles in it to get overboard.
Every person feels uneasy and jealous when their partner romances someone else, even if it's just on the screen. The same goes for the power couple, Kunal & Soha. They both get jealous of seeing their partner romancing someone else on the screen.
Kunal Khemu rules the industry in his way. He may have given a few movies, but his performance never goes unnoticed in whichever movie he has worked in, and however small or big his role may be. The actor always makes an impact.
