Janmashtami is one of the most widely celebrated festivals around the globe. This year, Janmashtami will be celebrated on 11 August 2020 and the occasion marks the birth of Lord Krishna on earth. Well, it is said that Lord Krishna is the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu and devotees also call him Nanhe Gopal. Janmashtami is celebrated with much fervour and zeal. On the special occasion of Janmashtami, devotees prepare special food that is preferred by the Lord.
1. Kheer
Kheer is the common sweet dish that is prepared on the festival and offered to Lord Krishna at midnight after the puja. This dish is prepared from rice and condensed milk. Kheer can be garnished with dry fruits and it is ready to serve.
2. Panchamrit
This dish is prepared out of five ingredients including milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar and tulsi. It is said that Panchamrit means five nectars and it is the food of Gods that is offered to them during puja.
3. Makhan Mishri
This dish is also known as white butter and is known to be Lord Krishna’s favourite food item. On the auspicious day of Janmashtami, devotees prepare special bhog of Makhan Mishri and offer to the deity. To prepare this dish, one needs to have unsalted milk cream and mishri daana.
4. Shrikhand
This is yet another sweet dish which is prepared from curd and powdered sugar.
5. Dhaniya Panjiri
Well, it is believed that the entire celebration of Janmashtami is incomplete without Dhaniya Panjiri. This dish is one of the most essential food item required during the puja as it is distributed among devotees in the form of prasad.
