Born as Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail, the ace south Indian actor who is better known as Mammootty turned a year older today. Fondly called as Mammuka, this Mollywood actor is celebrating his 70th birthday today. In the career spanning over five decades, Mammootty acted in over 400 films. Most of his films have been in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English.

In the run-up to his birthday celebrations, his fans across globe planned day-long celebrations. Not only from his fans, wishes pour in from various celebrities and people from different walks of life.

South actor Prithviraj Sukumaran was among the first ones to wish the legendary star. He tweeted early in the day, “I don’t have a better photo..coz we always forget to take one on those biryaani and black tea afternoons. And more than anything else, thank you for Chaalu and Surmi chechi! Happy birthday Ikka!”

Sharing a picture of him with the legend, another actor Tovino Thomas wrote, “Happy birthday Mammukka”

Kerala politician and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor wrote, “Wishing the legendary Mammootty a truly happy 70th birthday on 7 September and many more productive and creative years ahead. The place he has won in the hearts of millions must be the greatest gift of all. ”

One of the fans wishing his star wrote, “3 Best Actor National Awards, 7 State Awards, 13 Film Fare Awards, 400+films,6 Languages Padmasree Bharat Dr. Mammootty HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR MEGASTAR….”

Mamootty – a film journey spanning decades

This lawyer turned actor was born on September 7, 1951, in the Alapphuza district of Kerala. Mammootty made is acting debut in 1971 with small character in Anubhavangal Paalichakal. However, this versatile actor rose to fame with his 1980 releases Mela and Vilkkanundu Swapnangal. Then, there was no looking back for this Mollywood megastar.

Mammootty tasted his first commercial success with the film ‘New Delhi’ in 1987. He made his Tollywood debut with Swati Kiranam in 1992 and was critically acclaimed for his performance. Mammootty’s last Telugu straight release was ‘Yatra’ in 2019. Directed by Mahi Raghav, this movie was based on on the life of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

Not only have commercial hits behind his name, Mammotty has also won three National Film Awards for Best Actor, seven Kerala State Film Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South. The actor was also bestowed with the fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri in 1998 for his contributions to the arts.

Mammootty who was last seen in ‘The Priest’. He is currently working on upcoming films, Bheeshma Parvam and Agent.

Recently, Mammootty’s colleagues in film industry and netizens were surprised to find out that the 70-year-old’s still does workout. No wonder, he maintains a great health and a fit body. On his 70th birthday, we wish him all success and long life.
