Mathur reaches Rangpur safely and is taken to the grain storage by Krishnadhan Mittir, the Nayeb of Rangpur. Krishnadhan warns Mathur about Portuguese pirates, but Mathur says he can defend himself. Mathur acquires about 100 sacks of food grains. Jagadamba finds Gokul entering the servants’ quarters at night and informs Madhab about it. Madhab learns that Sukumari and Abhay sent Kusum to the servants’ quarters, disobeying Rani’s commands. Madhab then decides to confront Sukumari and Abhay.
