Salim-Javed’s Life Story Will Be Essayed In The Documentary Titled ‘Angry Young Men’

A discussion about 70s Hindi cinema will always be incomplete without the writer duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. And to tribute this legendary association, a documentary titled ‘Angry Young Men’ is on the lines. The film will essay their struggles of making it into the film industry while also emerging as the “star screenwriters”. Film editor Namrata Rao has come on board to helm this project. Also, the documentary will be jointly produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby Films.

Salim-Javed’s association was one of the biggest highlights of the 70s Hindi Cinema. While the duo delivered many hit projects, their extraordinary writing style shaped mainstream cinema further. Salim and Javed were known for creating high-pitched drama while also portraying relevant themes through their stories. The characters created by this writer duo are still fresh and popular among the masses.

Salim and Javed’s most appreciated works include Sholay, Don, Zanjeer, Deewar, Trishul, and few others. The duo worked together for nearly a decade and was noted as the “star screenwriters” of the Hindi film industry. Also, they revolutionized the working of the film industry where writers were given their due credits. Namrata Rao’s documentary will portray all the aspects of Salim-Javed’s story and how the duo changed mainstream cinema for good.

Coming back to their partnership, Salim-Javed split up in the early 80s. While Javed Akhtar went on to pursue his career as a lyricist and screenwriter, Salim Khan wrote a few films until the 90s. A few years ago, in a joint interview, Salim and Javed had spilled the beans about their much-talked-about split. They had revealed the reason being “ego issues” and how they could have saved it. And even after such a long period, they still remain to be close friends.
