Prince Harry and Oprah’s secret meeting from the past

Prince Harry has been friends with Oprah Winfrey for a few years. Many first learned of the friendship among Harry, Meghan Markle, and Oprah at the royal wedding in 2018 as Oprah had made the guest list. From then on, the public has seen the three become quite close.

Not only did the Duke and Duchess of Sussex choose to sit down with Oprah for a tell-all interview back in March this year, but they also moved into her neighbourhood in Montecito. Additionally, Harry and Oprah teamed up for a television series about mental health called “The Me You Can’t See,” which was released in May 2021.

Harry and Meghan are so close to Oprah, in fact, that many people thought that they might ask her to be the godmother of their daughter, Lilibet Diana. However, Oprah responded to those rumours during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t need to be a godmother, I’m a godmother by default. I’m a neighbour, I’m a friend and all that. You probably need someone younger to be the godmother,” she said.

Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey may have had a secret meeting way back in 2018. A source told the Wall Street Journal that Harry actually snuck away to meet with Oprah and a television producer in a hotel room in London years before he stepped down as a senior member of the royal family.

So, why would a prince in the UK need to meet with the queen of television? The two reportedly had a “personal conversation” that ultimately gave them the idea for a television series. It seems “The Me You Can’t See” was the apparent consequence of that meeting.

The 2018 meeting between Harry and Oprah seems to support the rumours that Harry and Meghan Markle were planning to leave royal life behind much earlier than they actually did. The timeline of their decision has almost always been in question, but the report that Harry and Oprah had already discussed a plan for a docu-series seems to validate that Harry and Meghan had no intentions of living their lives in the UK, long before they actually left.
