Since the dawn of cinema, ‘dynamic on-screen duo’ is one plot device that has always intrigued the fans. Watching two leads either forming a bond or standing against each other is something that the audiences thrive for. While some duos add a much-needed charisma to the storytelling, the others with their repelling chemistry make for an unexpected and power-packed ending. Similarly, ZEE5 has treated us with many interesting stories that had a dynamic duo in the spotlight.
These duos were no less than estranged brothers. However, one thing that set them apart from each other was their different lives. And ultimately these became the crux of the story, making the audience wanting more of their absurd yet spine-chilling chemistry. So, here’s taking a look at ZEE5 shows where two leads have a mirroring personality but their life differs.
In Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Master, it was the first time that Thalapathy Vijay stepped into the shoes of a grey character. JD, an alcoholic professor crosses paths with a gangster Bhavani (Vijay Sethupathi) to save children from being entrants into the crime world. While the clash between JD and Bhavani becomes the crux of Master, the subtle moments where JD has self-realization becomes some of the heart-melting moments in this massy drama.
Both JD and Bhavani share character traits with each other. Be it Bhavani’s tragic past or JD’s life story. However, their lives are on the exact opposite tracks from each other. And that becomes the conflict of the story.
Partly inspired by the story of a real-life serial killer, Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0 is a perfect character study more than a thriller. It follows the story of Ramanna, a serial killer who mirrors himself within an investigating officer Raghavan. The film gets dark and real with each passing minute as this duo and their stories come to light.
While Ramanna gets labeled as a law-breaker, Raghavan resembles law and order. When reality hits Raghavan, the film takes a disturbing turn.
Bejoy Nambiar is known for his well-written characters. In the revenge saga Taish, two families clash with each other after a series of unexpected events. Nambiar weaves a great plot portraying human emotions and their consequences. In Taish, Sunny (Pulkit Samrat) and Pali (Harshvardhan Rane) both are no less than estranged brothers.
Both Sunny and Pali are driven by rage and their family comes first for them. They both have suffered from the tragedy of losing their loved ones. Though their personalities are the same, their life is quite different from each other. While Pali is a notorious gangster, Sunny is a common man. However, their lives get entangled and that makes this revenge drama more thrilling.
ZEE5’s Naxalbari became one of the most acclaimed web shows of 2020. The show essayed the story of a long-ranging Naxal movement that is still prevalent. Through this episodic saga, the makers gave us a dynamic duo, whose life story is the same but not their motives. On one side we have Raghav (Rajeev Khandelwal), an STF officer who’s battling with the criminals whilst also dealing with his inner chaos. Then there’s Keswani (Aamir Ali), who masterfully leads the Naxal movement.
These characters are bold, strong, and deal with the tragedy of their past. However, both of them are on exact opposite paths, against each other.
Directed by Kunal Kohli, Lahore Confidential is a last-minute suspense thriller. The story revolves around Ananya, a RAW agent who’s on a secret mission in Pakistan. During which she falls in love with Rauf. It is their mirroring personalities, their similar interests that make their bond even stronger. However, it is during the climax that we realize Ananya and Rauf’s lives differ from each other. While Ananya is bound with her duties, Rauf is driven by political agendas.
The show MumBhai treated us with an interesting insight into the crime world of Mumbai. While the well-written characters stole the show, the intriguing plotlines kept us hooked to our screens. Here, Bhaskar Shetty, a young boy who gets raised by a gangster Rama, becomes a dedicated police officer. Bhaskar aims to whitewash the crime junctions of the society and eventually gets into the way of Rama, who’s no less than a godfather to him.
Both these characters are played by Angad Bedi and Sikander Kher respectively. Being on the opposite sides, they both share some common traits, however, their motives are very different. Bhaskar imbibes and learns life lessons through his godfather Rama. Both these characters are strong, bold, opinionated but ironically on different paths.
