Did You Know Nawazuddin Siddiqui Charged Rs 1 For His Film, Manto?

Nawazuddin Siddiqui just took Rs 1 for Manto because he felt that she shared many similarities with the central character.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a very well known actor in the Bollywood film industry and his struggling days are quite famous among his fans. But even after achieving success, he has continued to strike a healthy balance between commercial and art movies. In an interview, he revealed that he took a minimal fee of Rs 1 for the film Manto. In 2018, Nawazuddin Siddiqui played the role of Saadat Hasan Manto in the movie Manto. The film was directed by the popular director Nandita Das and Siddiqui refused to take money for the film from his producers. In an interview, Nawazuddin said that when he heard the story of the film he felt that Manto was just like him. That is the reason why he thought that if he took fees from Nandita for the film it would disturb him for the rest of his life. Just because he is a professional actor and wanted to be a part of the film, he took Rs. 1 for the film.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui started his career with a very small role in the movie, Sarfarosh. He went on to do such small roles in movies like Junglee, Shool and Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar but did not get recognition for his work. He got his first main role in Anurag Kashyap’s movie, Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012. Post which there was no turning back for him as he went on to do some blockbuster movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Lunchbox, Talaash, Kick and Mom. We wish to see him in many more exciting films in future.
