The much-awaited sequel to the S Shankar’s much-touted 1996-flick ‘Indian’ is finally gathering new legs. With Kamal Hasan all set to reprise his role as the corruption busting vigilante once again, the makers are looking at new faces to the original line-up due to various circumstances.
Kollywood circles is abuzz with news that the makers are looking to replace the charming and talented Kajal Aggarwal, who was to essay the role of an elderly person and had also got extra layers of prosthetic makeup to give her that old lady look. With the ‘Magadheera’ actor Kajal Aggarwal said to be in the family way, the actor is taking a break from all the spotlight that this development could bring on her. Kajal had shot a few scenes in her new lookup.
If this development could finally see Kajal Aggarwal be replaced, the untimely death of Vivek, a comedy actor earlier this year, has also forced the makers to look for a suitable replacement for him.
If an unexpected accident involving a crane that claimed three lives put the brakes on the shooting of Indian 2 in February 2020, the pandemic induced lockdown that followed delayed things further. In the interim, director Shankar too had to clear up a few legal issues with the makers Lyca Productions.
With all these issues now finally settled, indications are that shooting for Indian 2 will proceed in full steam from December 2021. The sequel will also see Rakul Preet Singh, Aishwarya Rajesh, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar share screen space with ‘Aandavar’ Kamal Hassan. Subaskaran of Lyca Production is bankrolling the sequel.
Anirudh Ravichander is scoring music for this film, while Ravi Varman along with Rathavelu will handle the visuals. A Sreekar Prasad, multiple national award-winning editor will handle the editing department.
All this notwithstanding, fans can expect lots of action with a social message against corruption coming their way as and when Indian 2 finally hits the silver screen. For the uninitiated, super-hit Tamil-Telugu bilingual ‘Bharateyudu’ has spurred Indian 2.
