Mammootty acting gems from 50 years of acting career

Mammootty birthday is being celebrated all over the world today. This megastar Mammootty is one of those actors who don’t require any introduction in Southern cinema. This versatile actor celebrates his 70th birthday today. Though Mammootty is getting older by a year, he continues to enthral film lovers in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and English, with his acting prowess. Incidentally, the star has completed 50 years in the film industry this year.

From a career spanning five decades, Mammootty, who is fondly called as Mammukka by his fans appeared in over 400 films with majority in Malayalam and several in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English.

On the account of his 70th birthday, we have tried to pick Mammootty’s five films one must not miss.

Mammootty: Gem of movies

Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha 

Directed by T. Hariharan and penned by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, this classic was released in the year 1989. This film is based on Chekavar warriors and Mammootty essayed the role of Chandu Chekavar. This historical drama was won four National Film awards. Mammootty won the National Award for the Best Actor. ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ was not only critically acclaimed but also ended as a commercial success too.

Pazhassi Raja

The successful director-writer duo T. Hariharan and M.T. Vasudevan Nair after two decades collaborated with Mammootty in 2009. After filming a cult classic in the form of ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ in 1989, the three this time churned out another historical movie which is based on the history of King Pazhassi Raja, a terror for the East India Company in the 18th century. Pazhassi Raja won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. The film has emerged as one of the top grossers in Kerala’s box office history until then.

Peranbu

Peranbu is Mammootty’s Tamil film which was released in 2018. The actor who is known for selecting interesting scripts portrayed the role of a single father who struggles to rise his daughter who has cerebral palsy. Directed by Ram, Peranbu was first screened at International Film Festival Rotterdam on 27 January 2018 and its theatrical release was on 01st February 2019. This film which was internationally acclaimed, was listed in Top rated Indian movies of 2019, by the Internet Movie Database (IMDB).

Abrahaminte Santhathikal

In this Malayalam action thriller, Mammootty appears as a police officer. The prime plot of Abrahaminte Santhathikal revolves around the investigation to nab a serial killer. Mammootty was applauded for his performance with multiple shades. Directed by Shaji Padoor, the film was released on 16 June 2018. According to reports, ‘Abrahaminte Santhathikal’ has collected around Rs 38-40 Crores at the end of its theatrical run and touted to be massive hit at the box office.

Unda

In this 2019 release, Mammootty touches the comedy genre and excels with his comedy timing. Based on a true incident during the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Unda is directed by Khalid Rahman. The main plot of this comedy entertainer revolves around a police team from Kerala which was sent to Naxal prone Chhattishgarh on election duty. Unda was critically acclaimed and ended as a commercial hit with a collection of around Rs 30 crore.
