Gadadhar Chattapadhyay, time and again, has shared numerous pearls of wisdom in Rani Rashmoni. Here are some of them.

Zee Bangla’s popular serial Karunamoyee Rani Rashmoni stars Ditipriya Roy as Rani Rashmoni, Gourab Chatterjee as Mathuramohan Biswas and Sourav Saha as Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in the lead roles. Gadadhar Chattopadhyay, who later went to be famous as  Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa Deb, was appointed the head priest of Dakshineshwar Kali temple by Rani Rashmoni. He often guided the people around him through his simple yet deep thoughts about the society and its practices. We think they all apply in today’s world also.

Equality within the human race

Gadadhar Chattopadhyay has objected to the caste system in many instances. He always looked at human beings as equals and never differentiated between people on the basis of caste, wealth, or stature. In one of the episodes, two men visited the Kamarpukur house of Gadadhar and asked him what he does for a living. When they get to know that he was the head priest at Dakshineshwar temple, they questioned him as to why he served at a temple made by a woman of the lower caste. Gadadhar objected to it and said that they were all children of goddess Kali. When the goddess herself made everyone equal, who are humans to create such differences?  This thought should be taken into account in today’s world also, which is filled with people who divide the society based on caste and class.

Respecting women

In today’s world, women have to fight an uphill battle to gain respect from others. We should all learn from Gadadhar how to respect women. When he met Saradamoni for the first time, he not only objected to her touching his feet but also touched her feet as well. He reasoned his actions by saying that in every woman, there is a part of the goddess herself, so it is only justified that he touched her feet. In a world that is constantly objectifying women, considering her a part of the shakti can bring in huge changes.

Forgiveness

Haran Thakur had always been jealous of Gadadhar as he did not get to be the head priest of Dakshineshwar. In an extreme moment of rage, he even kicked Gadadhar, resulting in Gadadhar falling down and hurting himself badly. However, when Mathur goes on to hit Haran Thakur in anger, Gadadhar stopped him and said that it was a sin to hurt anyone. It is wise to forgive and we should let fate decide the punishment for the one who is wrong. Today, as the world is narrowed down with hatred, forgiveness can indeed be the door to larger peace.

Gadadhar’s take on greed

Gadadhar Chattopadhyay had always led a simple life away from the greed of worldly luxuries. In one of the episodes, Gadadhar said that human beings are blindly looking for the diamond while it is right there with them. He meant to say that human beings are always so blinded by the greed of wealth and riches, that they forget to cherish the emotional bonds they share with other human beings. In another instance, when he was having a conversation with Mathur, he said that people fight amongst each other due to wealth, but real wealth is everywhere around us, in the form of nature and the people dear to us.

The strength of faith

People in present times are very easily swayed by the difficulties of life. As time goes by, we want everything to be presented to us on a platter. We are losing faith in ourselves. Gadadhar once told Jagadamba that difficulty and problems are part of life. It is our responsibility to face them head-on and have faith in ourselves during those times. It also helps if one seeks the refuge of goddess Kali. We can all keep this in mind and have faith in ourselves during hard times.
