Salim Merchant Makes Shocking Claims, Reveals Indian Idol Makers Had Asked Him To Praise Contestants!

ZEE5 Web Desk . Jul 03, 2021 .

Recently, Salim Merchant spilled the beans on the ‘instructions’ he got from the makers of Indian Idol when he was one of the judges on the show. Salim came out in support of veteran singer Amit Kumar’s claims.

Indian Idol season 12 has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. While the audiences have clearly pointed out the flaws of the show, the makers seem to be trying their best to cover up the act. Earlier, veteran singer Amit Kumar claimed that the makers had asked him to give only “positive remarks” to the contestants. This news had fuelled a new controversy altogether. And now, music composer Salim Merchant has made similar shocking claims against the show!

Salim Merchant who had judged seasons 5 and 6 of Indian Idol feels that reality TV shows are not “real” anymore. In a recent interview when Salim was quizzed about Amit Kumar’s claims, he went on to reveal that he also got the same instructions from the makers. Salim shared that he never paid any attention to such ‘directions’. And noted it as one of the reasons why he isn’t judging any reality TV show in the current times.

Also, Salim revealed that though he did not listen to the makers, he had praised many contestants even after they made mistakes. Justifying the reason behind the same, he shared that rather than pointing one’s mistakes, it would be better to highlight their pros and that would inspire them to work on their flaws. Furthermore, Salim also claimed that there are many reality shows that ask to deliver negative comments at times.

Well, it seems that the showrunners are trying their best to amplify drama amid reality TV shows, making it intriguing yet phony for the viewers. Highlighting the same, Indian Idol season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant had also expressed his disinterest in the current singing shows. Also, talking about Indian Idol, he believes that the show has been off-the-track from the last few seasons.

Earlier last month, Indian Idol 12 landed in controversy for creating “fake love angles” between the contestants. Also, audiences have been constantly calling out the show for its “biased” judging.
