Tollywood ladies are coming together to support each other and help others know the gravity of the situation in Turkey, which has sparked the black and white photo challenge.

Instagram has evolved to become a place where people can express themselves with photos. More often than not, the platform proves to be a trendsetter – especially for social issues that need looking into. A new trend has been making the rounds on the social media platform, which encourages women to share a black and white picture of themselves in support of women empowerment. Many Tollywood actors have caught on to it as well and shared their pictures to give voice to the cause.

Samantha Akkineni, with a massive following of 11 million fans, shared a picture of herself and wrote, “different sides, different shades, different emotions, different feelings. But all one” stressing the fact that women are one team despite their differences.

Rakulpreet simply shared the picture and thanked her friends for encouraging her to participate in the challenge. This black and white challenge was started by a Brazilian journalist named Ana Padro, who decided to show her solidarity towards a US representative who was mistreated by a male colleague.

Rashmika Mandanna joined the bandwagon and expressed herself by talking about how wonderful the idea of women supporting other women is. She also thanked her girlfriends for staying by her side, through thick and thin.

Shruti Haasan shared a self-portrait of herself to show her solidarity, too. Another side to the challenge is said to have started after the death of a 27-year-old Turkish woman, by her boyfriend.

Anu Emmanuel, too, shared a picture of herself. It is said that this movement was aimed at bringing to people’s attention the high femicide rate and the government’s attempts at diluting laws that protect women from “honour killing”.

Tamannah, too, simply shared a picture and emphasised the need for support between women. People, in general, have been outraged over the recent incidents in Turkey, and are expressing themselves freely on the platform, demanding justice.

Kajal Aggarwal shared a picture and wrote, “when women unite, the exhilaration of victory knows no bounds. Let’s always remain each other’s biggest assets”.

Lastly, Lakshmi Manchu, who has always spoken about issues related to women, shared a picture of herself, too. She expressed her gratitude for the women in her life and wrote, “best kind of friendships are fierce lady friendships where you aggressively believe in each other, defend each other and think the other deserves the world”.
