Mahi is a strong independent woman with a mind of her own, and she has proven this time and again. In fact, the reason why everyone loves Teri Meri Ikk Jindri so much is because of the fact that it portrays a fearless, opinionated woman in the form of Mahi. In recent episodes, we saw Pappu and Chanda execute their evil plan to humiliate Mahi and ruin her wedding. While Mr Rai and Arjun left Mahi mid-ceremony due to the video planted by Pappu to malign her character, Mahi and her determination to prove her innocence reminds us of Sita’s Agni pariksha from Ramayan.

In the recent episodes, we saw Mahi’s own family turning against her as Pappu and Chanda succeed in their plans. With no other option left, Mahi set’s on a mission to prove her innocence to the world. While this reminded us of Sita’s Agni pariksha from Ramayan, there are also other instances where we can draw parallels between Mahi and Sita’s circumstances.

In Ramayan, just a while before Sita was abducted, Lakshman had alerted her to not cross the threshold aka Lakshman Rekha as she would be safe inside it. Sita stepped out of it, and what happened next is known by one and all. Similarly, Mahi was asked not to step out of the house as there was only one day left for her wedding. While Sita was manipulated by Ravan in form of a sage, Chanda manipulated Mahi, making her cross the threshold and reach Jogi’s house.

While Mahi and Jogi lay in an inebriated state, Gulshan took a few videos of them to help Pappu fulfil his plans. While the Ramayan era had magic, in today’s time and age we have the internet. And with the internet, anything can be possible. While Sita was asked to prove herself without any proof, here, Pappu was gathering all possible proofs to trap Mahi in his schemes.

When Sita was rescued from Ravan’s clutches, she was asked to give Agni Pariksha to prove her “purity”. During this time, no one supported her and she had to go through the ordeal. Similarly, even Mahi’s own family turned against her. At first, when Mahi’s family saw the doctored video of an intoxicated Mahi and Jogi, the whole family stood by her claiming the video to be fake, but the moment she told everyone the truth that she did visit Jogi a night before her wedding, suddenly everyone turned against her. Once she accepted it was her in the video, nobody even gave her a chance to explain her side of the story.

While it was Ram’s decision to ask Sita for an Agni Pariksha, here Arjun was given a free hand at deciding what he wants to do with the wedding. Everyone just stood as spectators as Arjun kept humiliating and demeaning Mahi.

All these events lead to Mahi’s grandfather getting critical and hospitalised. Although Mahi’s family loved her, they couldn’t believe her without any proofs. Unable to take this humiliation anymore, Mahi decides to gear up for her Agni Pariksha. While Sita walked over a fire, Mahi gets ready to go through endless torments to prove her innocence to the world, especially to her family.

Despite so many similarities between the two situations, there is one thing that we feel Mahi would do differently. She wouldn’t accept Arjun even if he comes back to her after she had proven her innocence. And it’s sad to see how she was compelled to prove her innocence despite belonging to the 21st century.
