The Story Behind How Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan Got Married!

Two of the most iconic actors of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on Thursday. The couple got married in the year 1973 after dating for four years and have two kids together ie, Abhishek Bachchan, who is married to actress Aishwarya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan who is married to industrialist Nikhil Nanda. On the occasion of their anniversary, here’s a quick dekko of their heartwarming love story.

There was once a time when no actress wished to work with Amitabh Bachchan. He had delivered about 17 flop films, and many actresses were hesitant to share screen space with him. That is when actress Jaya Bhaduri stepped in and signed up for the film Zanjeer opposite Amitabh Bachchan.

As it turns out,  the actors had decided to visit London if their film Zanjeer became a box office hit. Much to their delight, Zanjeer was a chartbuster. However, Amitabh Bachchan’s father did not let him visit London without marrying Jaya Bachchan first.

Both Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan really wanted to visit London, they had even bought the tickets. But, they also did not want to go against Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s wishes. That is why they decided to tie the knot first. As per the reports, the whole marriage was a hush-hush affair and not a lot of people from the industry were invited.

Amitabh Bachchan’s baraat only had five people including his father. On the bride’s side, her family members and only a few members of the film fraternity were in attendance. After the marriage, the couple immediately left for London for three weeks.

Jaya Bachchan first met Amitabh Bachchan in Pune. They got to know each other on the set of the film Guddi and became good friends. After that, they delivered several hit films together and got married post Zanjeer’s success. After marriage, Jaya Bachchan decided to sign lesser films and stay at home to take care of kids and family. Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan continued his work in the film industry and soon became a megastar.
