World Samosa Day is celebrated on September 5 and the day is solely dedicated to the crunchy oily snack. Be it rains or winter or summer, samosas are our savour. This dish directly touches the soul and brings a lot of happiness. The best way to enjoy the weather is to sit in the balcony with a hot cup of chai or coffee and munch on these snacks. How many varieties of samosa have you eaten till date? Probably Punjabi samosa, keema samosa, noodle samosa, right? Check out this list of different types of samosas that we bet you haven’t heard of and you can try at home.
Punjabi Samosa
Chef Ranveer prepares Punjabi Samosa and also shares few tips on how to cook the potatoes perfectly for the recipe.
Ingredients:
500 gram potatoes boiled
500 gram Maida
1/2 cup Ghee
5 gram Ajwain
Salt
Water
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp Red chilli powder
2-3 Green chillies
2 tsp Ginger
1 Lime
1 tbsp Coriander leaves
1/3 cup Green peas
2 tsp Chaat masala powder
1 tsp Fennel seeds
1/2 tsp Garam masala
2 tbsp Cashew nuts, chopped
Preparation:
Chop green chillies, ginger, coriander leaves and mix it well. Sprinkle water and make a hard dough. Divide the dough into round portions and heat the ghee. Add cumin, ginger and the rest of the ingredients along with potatoes. Roll each portion of dough and add the masala mixture. Seal the edges into a pocket triangle. Deep fry in oil till golden brown and serve with chutney.
Keema Samosa
Those who love meat must have eaten Keema samosas.
Ingredients:
250 grams Mutton minced
1 Onion
2 cloves Garlic
1/2 inch Ginger
2 Green Chillies
6 Mint Leaves (Pudina)
2 tablespoons Coriander
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
1 teaspoon Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
2 teaspoons Coriander Powder
1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
1 teaspoon Cumin powder
Salt
Oil
Preparation:
Add flour, butter, salt and mix the mixture. After the dough is prepared keep it in the refrigerator. Take a pan, add oil, onions, green chillies, ginger, garlic and saute. Later add the minced mutton, red chilli powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala and salt. To make Keema samosa, take a rolled dough and all the mixture into it. Fry the samosas and serve hot.
Mushroom Samosa
For mushroom samosas, you need to stuff the pocket dough with mushroom masala and fry it.
Ingredients:
6 Mushrooms
Onion
Tomato
1 Green chilli
5 Garlic cloves
1 Ginger
2 Sprigs Cilantro
Salt
Sugar
Turmeric Powder
Garam Masala Powder
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
Preparation:
In a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients and knead the dough well. Chop the mushrooms finely and heat a pan. Add oil, garlic, ginger, green chillies, onion, tomato, salt, mushrooms, cilantro, sugar, masala powders. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and fill it with the mixture. Close the samosa by making a pleat and fry.
Spinach and Mozarella samosa
Kids usually do not eat green vegetables and mothers have a hard time convincing them to eat healthy food.
Ingredients:
1 cup refined oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup cheese cubes
1/2 tablespoon refined oil
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon green chilli
1/2 cup spinach
water
Preparation:
Chop the spinach and add in hot water. Keep the blanched spinach aside and add flour in a bowl along with refined oil and salt. Knead the dough and take out balls. Mix the blanched spinach and grated cheese and fill it in dough pockets. Fry the samosas and serve hot.
Corn and spinach patti samosa
Well, this samosa comes with several flavours as it includes corn and spinach into it.
Ingredients:
1 cup Wheat flour
oil
cumin seeds
1 tsp garlic
½ cup onions
½ cup corn
½ cup spinach boiled
salt
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp fenugreek dried
Green chutney
Corn starch and water mixture
Preparation:
Knead the dough and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan add butter, cumin seeds, chopped garlic, onions, boiled spinach, corn, salt, coriander powder, and red chilli powder. Roll out the dough and stuff the filling. Deep fry the samosas and serve with green chutney.
Honey Chilli Potato Samosa
For those who love fusion food here’s honey chilli potato samosa for you all.
Ingredients:
1 cup chopped potato
oil
2 tsp chopped garlic
2 tbsp tomato sauce
2 tbsp red chilli sauce
1 tsp vinegar
1 tsp cornflour
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 tbsp chopped spring onion
honey
7 – 8 samosa patti
maida
Preparation:
Blanch the diced potato in boiling water and let it chill. Take a towel, add potatoes and fry it. Take another bowl and add oil, finely chopped garlic, tomato sauce, red chilli sauce, vinegar, cornflour, red chilli powder, chilli sauce paste, sesame seeds, chopped spring onion, honey and mix it well. Add the potatoes in the garlic and mix. Fill the dough with the mixture and serve hot.
