The Great Indian Kitchen is a Tamil drama movie about a newly wed couple. A sociology teacher marries a Bharatnatyam dancer. From an orthodox patriarchal family, the teacher believes that the tag ‘Kudumba Thalaivar’ belongs to men even if they don’t satisfy the economic needs of the family. He also teaches this to his students. Having a different mindset, the dancer tries her best to get used to this family. However, she finds it difficult, even more so in the absence of her mother-in-law. Will she be able to jell properly in the family? Watch the movie to find out. The Great Indian Kitchen Movie Plot

The plot of the Tamil Romance movie shows the journey of a danseuse with dreams. She is married to a teacher who firmly believes that men should be the head of the family even if he is not able to take care of it properly. She makes an effort to properly adjust to her new family, however, she struggles with it immensely. She strives to keep up with the family’s ‘traditions’ and routine household chores, showing the grim reality of being a ‘home administrator’. She soon realises that she has been married into a patriarchal family with her father-in-law and husband being spoiled. Gradually, she starts to grasp the underlying ideologies and retorts in her own way. Through her journey, the plot of the movie shows women and their day-to-day encounters with patriarchy, sexism and superstition.

The cast of the movie includes Aishwarya Rajesh as Wife, a dancer, Rahul Ravindran as Husband, a teacher and Poster Nandakumar as Achan. Yogi Babu is seen as Husband’s cousin, Mekha Rajan as Usha and Kalairani as Amma. The movie has been directed by R Kannan while the producers are Durgaram Choudhary and Neel Choudhary. The dialogues have been given by Jeevitha Suresh Kumar while the writing has been taken care of by Savari. Balasubramaniem has done the Cinematography while Jerry Silvester Vincent has composed the music.
