6 Real-Life Serial Killers Portrayed In Psychological Thriller Series Abhay Will Give You Sleepless Nights!

The second season of the highly-rated thriller Abhay is set to release on August 14. This series sees Detective Abhay Pratap Singh (Kunal Kemmu) taking on some of the most heinous serial killers on #TheRoadToJustice. This series is based on true crimes and reveals some of the shocking cases of murder seen in India. Here are some of the true-crime stories we have seen in the first season of this series.

Episode 1: Bagged and Tagged

This episode is inspired by the famous Nithari Case from 2006. Nithari is a village situated in Noida (Uttar Pradesh) but it made front-page headlines because of the harsh and rare nature of the crimes that came to light. In the year 2005 and 2006, many children and teenagers started disappearing from this village. It grabbed the eyeballs when the disappearances continued. This case includes crimes like sexual abuse, murder, cannibalism and attempted necrophilia. Moninder Singh Pandher and his domestic servant Surinder Koli were found guilty for these crimes.

Episode 2: Who is the Daddy now?

This episode is based on a case that happened in Bhopal where the accused Udayan Das killed his live-in girlfriend Aakanksha Sharma and buried the corpse. This incident was especially brutal because of the nature of the murder. The accused hid the dead body inside a wooden box and converted it into slabs using cement, concrete and water. This 32-year-old criminal also killed his parents and buried their bodies in the garden.

Episode 3: Swipe Right

The world of online dating is helping young people find love but it has its fair share of horror stories. This case is right up there among the worst stories that will leave you wary of meeting people online. A 27-year-old girl from Jaipur used to lure young boys on a dating app and kill them brutally. This girl became famous as ‘The Tinder Killer’. She not only used to kill them, but also used to ask for ransom from the victim’s relatives.

Episode 4: Cyanide Poisoning

This case became famous by the name of ‘Cyanide Mallika’ and was active between the year 1999 and 2007. The accused used to target middle-class housewives outside temples in Bangalore and Mysore. After spotting, the accused, Mallika used to pose as a pious woman who can solve all their problems through some Puja. She used to kill the victims by having them drinking water mixed with cyanide and then grab all the jewels, money, etc. leaving the body in the temple. She was the first woman to be sentenced to death in Karnataka.

Episode 5: Crossfire

This story is based on a case from 1993 when a sixteen-year-old boy, named Sajal Barui, killed his stepmother, stepbrother and his father. The murder was in the headlines in the press because of the gruesome nature of the killings. He mentioned that his family used to physically abuse and torture him. He and his friends/co-conspirators were sentenced to lifetime prison, and the celebrated the judgement. He fled once from the jail in the year 2001 but again caught in 2003. Sajal Barui was also one of the conspirators of the 2002 terrorist attack on the American Centre in Kolkata.

Episode 7 & 8: The Butcher and 48 Hours

Both of these episodes talk about the same case and bears similarity with the Aadesh Khamra case. This accused used to be a tailor in the day time and a butcher in the nights which gave him a chance to rob Supply Trucks. This gang, led by Aadesh Khamra, targeted truck drivers or their helpers. However, this episode has also been fictionalised to make it more brutal and cruel.

In the second season, we are set to see Ram Kapoor, Chunky Pandey, Bidita Bag and Raghav Juyal playing the role of more serial killers based on true stories. Watch the trailer for the new season here.
