When she initiated legal action after Payal Ghosh mentioned her name in MeToo
Payal Ghosh recently came out and put rape allegation on Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. In court, the actor had allegedly dragged Richa Chadha’s name, defaming her. To answer Payal Ghosh and take a stand for herself, Richa Chadha filed a defamation suit against the actor. It was later reported that the two settled their case and Payal Ghosh unconditionally apologised to Richa Chadha.
When she extended her support to Naseeruddin Shah
Earlier in January 2020, Naseeruddin Shah expressed his views about increasing mob lynching in India. Several netizens called out the senior actor and said that he did not have a right to speak about such issues. Richa Chadha extended her support to the senior actor and said that in various situations, actors are asked to speak up, but when they actually do, people abuse them. Richa Chadha also added that actors are tax-payers and have every right to speak.
When she engaged with Ashok Pandit over an anti CAA war
Back in 2019, University students who were protesting the CAA bill were attacked. Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri mentioned that the protestors are dummy students. Filmmaker Ashok Pandit agreed to the statement and wrote that a few Bollywood actors were supplying dummy students to the university to protest. Richa Chadha gave a befitting reply to the filmmaker and asked why had been playing the blame game. She wrote that the filmmaker was nice to her when she met him personally, but he showed a different avatar online.
When she took a stand for the Tanishq Ad, calling it a ‘beautiful ad’
The recently released Tanishq ad left the internet divided with many people saying it was a beautiful ad, while others said it was insulting to the Hindu culture. Many people called out the ad and said it was a disgrace to Indian society. Richa Chadha, however, took a stand and through her Twitter account and tweeted that the ad was indeed beautiful.
When she spoke about casteism
Casteism has been existing in India since years now. Although we live in the 20th century now, casteism is not yet dead. In August, Richa Chadha tweeted about casteism in India and shared a picture of the Sunday Matrimonial where people from urban areas had put up ads asking for suitable brides and grooms. The preferences mentioned in the matrimonial is something that the actor did not agree to.
