#SpreadTheCheer: If Ravi’s father from Comali joined hands with Santa, the world would be a better place
ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨFrom truly being a mascot of equality to raising his son the right way, Ravi’s father in Comali had qualities Santa would approve of, in a blink!
One of the best comedy movies that 2020 gave us was the Jayaram Ravi and Kajal Agarwal starrer Comali. While the movie was hilarious throughout, there were moments where it showed the society a mirror that was much needed. One of the most pivotal characters in doing that was Ravi’s father and here’s why we think that he should team up with Santa and spread the cheer and positivity to make the world a better place.

1) Way ahead of his time
Be it in terms of eliminating the word ‘Caste’ completely or not telling people that they belong to a royal family, in more ways than one, Ravi’s father was way ahead of his times and never believed in raising his children the conventional way as others did. The fact that Ravi came out so strong emotionally from his coma must be credited to his father.
2) A true believer of equality
When he takes Ravi to get him enrolled in a school, what we get is an extremely touching and insightful moment between the father, son and the personnel in charge for attendance. When asked to fill out the caste section, he turns to Ravi and asks what caste means and when Ravi answers saying he doesn’t know what that means, Ravi’s father says that he doesn’t want to teach his son what he doesn’t know, only to add to the existing inequality.
3) No delusion regarding his royal connection
When Ravi finds out that he is in fact royalty, he is mad at his father and we take it in the spirit of comedy. But we know that Ravi’s father was pure at heart. He never boasted about being a part of a royal family or took pride in it since it didn’t hold any value for him at the time. Unlike a number of families that think that they are special, he knows that he cannot take false pride in his familial history.

4) Connected to his culture
He taught his son everything nice about the Indian culture and was very rooted in his traditions while being detached from all the discriminatory social evils. While he also taught Ravi that Casteism was bad, he took the time out to also teach him the art of idol-making like his ancestors did.
5) Practiced what he preached
Not for once in the movie do we see him asking for special status because of his caste or background. Though we see considerably less of him in the movie, it was enough for him to have left a mark on us and he did so by having us all in awe of how noble he was since he practiced what he preached.
