Shakeela: Richa Chadha Elaborates On Her Role, Talks About The Real Shakeela

Richa Chadha is one of the most sought-after actors in the industry. She has been loved by the audiences for her stellar performances in movies. Richa Chadha’s latest movie Shakeela has hit the theatres on December 25, 2020. In a recent interview, she has opened up about her experiences of essaying the character of Shakeela. Richa has said that apart from all the information that is available in the public domain about Shakeela, she was more affected with the trauma Shakeela had to face in her personal life. Revealing details about Shakeela as a human being, Richa Chadha has said that her mother pushed in the soft-porn industry when they were facing a financial crunch. She also said that it is difficult to imagine the psychological impact this must have had to her.

She also revealed that Shakeela hardly ever got the chance to live a normal life. Her attempts at a successful marriage had also failed. Richa Chadha has also revealed that at first, she was not convinced to do the film. The reason for the same was that she wanted the makers of the film to put forward her life as it was. Chadha elaborated that the proper representation of Shakeela’s life was absolutely necessary. She has also added that she met with the producer and the director of the movie to understand their thought process on the film and what they wanted to portray exactly.

Richa has shared many other details about Shakeela’s current life as well. She said that the former actor still lives in the same 1BHK house from where she had started her career. Shakeela’s family members also did not support her as much she had expected and this was her life’s biggest tragedy. And despite that, Shakeela did everything to support her family in every way she could.

Chadha has further said that Shakeela is a good person at heart. She expects that people will see this side of her as well when they watch the film. She has also stressed on the point that patriarchy has played a major role in suppressing Shakeela which makes it a sad story. Ever though Shakeela is alive today, her story does not have a happy ending. Shakeela also stood up to her male colleagues which was very brave of her to do so in the 90s era.
