Bhumi Pednekar Reveals Why She Loves to Play Strong Characters On The Big Screen

Recently, Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar opened up about women-centric films and revealed why she loves playing strong characters on the screen. The actor in her brief conversation also shared her mantra of selecting a script.

Although the on-going global pandemic has kept many activities on halt for months, the entertainment was something that didn’t stop even during the lockdown. Via OTT platform, Bollywood actors delivered content to entertain the audience while a few were waiting for theatres to open. As life is coming back to the normalcy along with the new normal, these actors are gearing up for their upcoming works. Being one of them, actor Bhumi Pednekar is also all set to treat her fans with her multiple upcoming releases. Recently, when she exclusively talked with BollywoodLife, Pednekar opened up about how a section of people feels challenged when she of an actress plays a strong on-screen character.

Interestingly, when Bhumi Pednekar was asked to share how she selects a script, the actor said, “I don’t follow a particular formula to choose a script. While reading a script if a feel that this character is something that I desperately want to do, I go for it”. She further added, “so far it’s been a good run”. As the conversation moved ahead while mentioning about her previous work in Saand Ki Aankh and Pati Patni Aur Woh, among many others, Bhumi was asked if she likes to project such characters for women. Giving an elaborate answer, Bhumi asserted, “I try very hard to uplift my gender through my work. And, films are the best medium to do it. I try and pick up these different women that stand up for their rights”.

Later, she was asked to share her piece of mind on the people who criticise women-centric films. Interestingly, the actor says, “As a society, we do not want to come face to face with our demons”. Bhumi also argued that this is the reason people find women-centric content boring. She also added that with time even the audience is changing. “A film’s primary job is to entertain the audience but at the same time it has to leave you behind with a thought”, shared Bhumi. While saying that she hates the word women-centric, Bhumi added, “It’s not about women-centric, it’s about a character and you are seeing that character’s story”. She concluded her answer and said that not only on camera but women need to be empowered behind-the-camera too.
