One of the properties that were raided today was the office of Phantom Films, which was established by Anurag Kashyap, director Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and producer Madhu Mantena. The Income Tax Department has accused Anurag, Taapsee and Vikas of not revealing all their income sources. The production company was accused of tax evasion in an earlier instance too. The production company has allegedly evaded Service Taxes for many projects. The company was dissolved in 2018, largely due to the sexual assault allegation charged on Bahl by a former Phantom employee. Phantom films had produced films like Lootera, Hasee Toh Phasee, Masaan and Manmarziyaan.

Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nawab Malik has said that the raids are just an attempt of the Modi led Central government to suppress the voices of the ones speaking against them. “Central agencies like ED, CBI, and Income Tax are being used to target those who take an anti-government stand and speak against the policies of the regime,” said the state minister.
