Three months ago, an unfortunate incident took place in Gadchinchale Village, Palghar, where a vigilante group lynched two Hindu Sadhus and their driver. The Maharashtra Police Department and the Crime Investigation Department (CID) have been investigating in this matter since then. The team probing this case examined 808 suspects and 118 witnesses to gather strong evidence against the accused. And finally, Maharashtra CID has filed a chargesheet in court against 126 accused in the Palghar lynching case. According to the sources, CID has filed the 4,955-page chargesheet in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Dahanu Taluka in Palghar district.
The CID reports state that the entire incident was an outcome of rumours and the lynching did not take place on religious grounds. The Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh, has also confirmed the same. However, leaders from the opposition party have been criticising the government’s approach to this case.
