Shehr-E-Zaat: Mahira Khan And Mikaal Zulfiqar’s Show Reminds Us Of A Famous Greek Folk Tale

The Zindagi show Shehr-E-Zaat has Mahira Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar in the lead roles as Falak and Salman. The show revolves around the life of Falak. It is her journey through insecurities, infidelity, self-love, and the dawning of the truth over a sheet of illusions. Falak thinks that she is a princess and a haughty one at that! She treats poor people like rag dolls. Falak’s friend Humza is a down-to-earth person and so is her dadi. But her mother is a rich socialite who disbelieves in the notion of charity or religion. Falak learns from her mother and grows into a self-centred person. But life leads her to Salman and the journey transforms Falak into a very different person, an altogether opposite personality.

In the show, Falak meets Salman after an arduous penance. It seems like she awaits her prince charming since forever! Falak makes a sculpture of a man who appears in her dreams and then as soon as the sculpture is complete, she meets Salman. Salman is the personification of her sculpture. He is perfect to every crease and wrinkle on his face! Falak does not believe her fate and gets married to Salman. After that their relationship derails and differences erupt. The story of Pygmalion a sculptor goes like this – The sculptor had declared to all his friends that he was not interested in women. But then he sculpted the near-to-perfection statuette of Ophelia. He fell in love with the woman he had carved. He wished Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love, to make the statue come true and it did! Pygmalion and Ophelia lived happily until Ophelia, now no more a piece of ivory but flesh and blood started to age. She had wrinkles, under-eye circles, and some crows feet around her eyes. Pygmalion wished her to remain the same and in a frustrating streak yelled at her so. Pygmalion saw Ophelia turn into stone in front of his eyes and cried at the loss of his love!
