When the extremely handsome Johnny Depp wore a men’s crop top in the 80’s!

Megastar Johnny Depp: It was the year 1984; the film was Nightmare on Elm Street; the football t-shirt he was wearing was cropped. How often do you come across men sporting cropped tees? Never probably, because cropped tops are only supposed to be for women. Well, that information did not seem to restrict our very own superstar Johnny Depp from sporting a cropped football tee, in the movie Nightmare on Elm Street. And if you didn’t know it yet, we’re talking about the 1980s.

The crop top is here to stay, no matter how hard you try to shake it off. The cropped tee has been popular for so long that it can now be seen almost anywhere, from high fashion runways to the ladies’ section of the mall. But just when you thought the trend had reached every demographic area conceivable, the men’s crop top happened. 

The surge in popularity of male crop tops happened in 2014 with #boysincroptop2k14 trending. This was right after the fashion-forward rapper Kid Cudi took to the Coachella stage, rocking in an orange crop top.

The men in Hollywood stepped onto this trend way back in the ’80s. Along with Johnny Depp wearing one in his movie, the very famous Will Smith also took it as an opportunity. He wore the very non-famous men crop top in his sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which aired in the ’90s. Though both the actors received unencouraging comments regarding their outfits at the time. But with their style, these actors undoubtedly revolutionized fashion and came in with a revolution, which is now being embraced by millions. 

If you see a guy wearing a crop top on the street next summer, don’t be surprised. The trend has resurged with all the ace idols in the industry sporting one. The Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny was spotted wearing a men crop top in one of his mirror selfies.

The Indian industry isn’t far behind in catching up to this new trend. Nitish Arora, an Indian designer, has designed crop tops for guys in his new collection, with Divyam Bhiduri, one of the numerous models, sporting a body-hugging crop top from the designer’s collection.
