Nearly after 40 years, ABBA’s song get into Top 10 UK single, fans react

Almost after 40 years, the Swedish band ABBA started finding itself on the Top 10 chart of UK singles. On Friday, ABBA’s “Don’t Shut Me Down” from the upcoming album Voyage secured the 9th position on the Official U K Singles Chart.

The single was streamed 2.3 million times in the UK during the latest cycle and it is the second most downloaded song of the week, according to OCC reports. “Don’t Shut Me Down” is part of the album Voyage and the other song released from the album is “I Still Have Faith In You”. The latter has secured Number 14 on the chart as of now.

Since the song’s touching the top number, fans are pouring their excitement and love on social media. A fan tweeting the news simply wrote, “Well done #Abba”.

The last time, ABBA entered into Top 10 of UK Singles was in December 1982 when their song “One of Us” reached the Number 3 position. ABBA topped the world music charts between 1974 and 1983 and they were Sweden’s first winner of Eurovision Song contest with their song Waterloo.

Coined from the first letters of their names, ABBA was a band of two married couples namely Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid, and their stage musical ‘Mamma Mia’ is etched in the musical history. The first group from a non-English speaking country to achieve such fame in English pop music, ABBA is one of the bestselling music artists of all time.

Hailed as one of the eighth bestselling single artists, more than 400 million records of ABBA were sold in the last five decades. ABBA’s tracklist of Voyage includes ten songs I Still Have Faith In You, Don’t Shut Me Down, When You Danced With Me, Little Things, Just a Notion, I Can’t Be That Woman, Keep An Eye On Dan, Bumblebee, No Doubt About It and Ode To Freedom.
