11 Covid-19 Survivors Share Their Experience Of Fighting With The Deadly Virus And Emerging As Winners!

Covid-19 cases are on a constant rise all over the nation. While the fight is on with all the vigour, it might take some time for the world to recover from the deadly Coronavirus. We have lost numerous lives on the way, but there are also many survivors who inspire us with their stories. We got in touch with a few such survivors, asking them about their story of fighting with the infamous virus. Let’s take a look at how these heroes recovered from Covid-19.

Rushabh Dhruv

Rushabh Dhruv, a journalist from Mumbai was detected with the virus when he got tested before going on a trip. Needless to say, the trip couldn’t happen, but luckily, Rushabh was asymptomatic and thus didn’t have to deal with the major side effects of Covid. On the advice of his family doctor, Rushabh charged himself up on multivitamins and got a lot of rest. And that’s exactly what he recommends for anyone recovering from the virus. “sleep, eat healthy food, take steam daily and brisk walk at home,” he says!

Prajakta Ajgaonkar

Prajakta was one of those people who took extreme precautions, followed all the norms of social distancing, and yet, was infected with the virus. Her initial symptoms began with body pain and headache, which she assumed was because of the gym. But that wasn’t the case. She ignored all the red flags for 5 days until she lost her sense of taste and smell. That’s when it hit her and her family, as to what they were dealing with.

She immediately quarantined herself and got everyone in her family tested. Although Prajakta tested positive, thankfully her parents’ report came out to be negative. “Timely medication, coupled with steam intake twice a day, vitamin tablets, and protein-rich foods” were what helped Prajakta recover from this deadly virus. After a quarantine period of nearly 16 days, she has finally tested negative. Prajakta also emphasises on post covid precautions and says it is crucial to look into them.

Nikita Gwalani

Nikita had contracted the virus in September 2020 when the situation was supposedly under better control. She had an extremely high fever, throat pain, and weakness. When her health didn’t get any better with two days of medications, Nikita took a test and it came positive. She talks about the severity of the virus and how it seemed okay to joke about the virus before, but once she was down with it, she realised how serious matters were. Nikita also pointed out how her loving husband, family, and friends were a great support to her during these trying times. She recovered within 10 days, got tested and the result was negative. Looking at how the virus isn’t going away anytime soon, Nikita said, “Jaan Hai Toh Jahaan Hai” and asked everyone to stay indoors and take precautions.

Shyam Bhaskar

Aged 55, Shyam Bhaskar is an Indian working in Dubai. He came in touch with the virus in July 2020 when Covid-19 had been terrorising the whole world with its initial attack. His symptoms included sore throat, fever, and body pain, but since his oxygen levels were stable, he was advised to home-quarantine himself. Talking about his experience Shyam said how it was one of the worst experiences in his life. It was specifically difficult for him as he stayed away from the family and didn’t have anyone to take care of him. He fought the virus alone while getting food from a nearby mess service. Shyam also pointed out how taking regular steam and drinking kaada helped him recover faster. He then tested negative after almost a month of fighting the virus and is now back to work while taking the necessary precautions.

Cherry Shah

Cherry is a young mother who was infected with the virus when her newborn was just 8 months old. Although she tested positive, her son tested negative and that was a matter of concern as such a young kid couldn’t live without their mother. After consulting with her doctor, Cherry was able to be with her son by taking precautions such as wearing a mask even at home. She says the highlight of her journey was the evening she’d spend with her kid, gazing out of the balcony.

Jessie Christopher

Jessie is a young influencer who had a different take on the virus. She talked about how people have certain assumptions about the virus but the reality of it can only be understood once you go through it. Jessie also mentioned how, for her, the virus had affected her emotionally and mentally than physically. She talked about the effects of isolation and separation, on one’s mental health, and pointed out how overwhelmed she felt to be out of her house after testing negative.

Sankalp Patil

Sankalp’s story might shock us with the fact that he actually felt relieved when he initially tested positive. He said it was so because he was struggling a lot on his work front, with his studies, helping his family financially, and more. Although initially, Covid seemed like an escape from all of this, the quarantine period gave him a different perspective in life, focusing on all the things he took for granted.

Sankalp realised the worth of his job, his college life, and more importantly his family, with whom he couldn’t interact, for obvious reasons. Although the experience was physically draining, Sankalp feels the quarantine gave him time to contemplate and value things in his life, while becoming a better version of himself.

Chaitral Chourikar

According to Chaitral, she “freaked out” when she tested positive. The loss of smell and taste was what made her get the test, and of course, it came positive. Despite fighting the deadly virus, Chaitral was also focusing on her work and college at the same time. She says although it was pretty hectic, keeping herself occupied with something or the other really helped her stay calm. With the support of her friends and family, Chaitral has now tested negative and is back to work with even more vigour.

Divya Jain

Divya Jain from Patna contracted the virus this month itself i.e. April 2021. Not just her, but her whole family tested positive, and she says that’s what worried her the most. Although physically it seemed easier to fight the virus, what really took a toll on her was the mental battle against the fear of having Covid-19. Meanwhile, her grandmother needed an oxygen cylinder which wasn’t easy to procure, and Divya says that really affected her emotional and mental state. But thankfully they got the oxygen on time and now her whole family has recovered, following their doctor’s suggestions to the point.

Girish R Warrier

Girish wasn’t sure how he contracted the virus as he used to go to the office as well as to buy groceries. Once he started getting symptoms such as headache, fever, and even diarrhea, Girish got himself tested. Once the result came out positive, he was in complete home quarantine and followed his doctor’s instructions to the point. He kept himself occupied with work, or just rested as he felt very tired. Today, even after testing negative, he said he feels weird but he’s going on with life as his doctor said the body will take time to recover completely.

Varsha Kuthetur

Varsha from Bengaluru tested positive while she was making contact rounds of the hospital, attending to her ailing father. She also pointed out how difficult it must be for people in the hospitals and also lauded the frontline workers for their efforts, as she had a first-hand experience of seeing them work day and night. Talking about her experience, Varsha mentioned that it felt like being caged in jail and that radio was her best distraction. She advised people fighting with the virus to maintain a positive attitude, listen to music and meditate to keep themselves calm.
