In the credits of the movie Chhalaang, the new tweaked spelling of her name appears. She tweaked her name’s spelling after consulting a numerologist. The numerologist explained to her the science behind it. And told her that the new spelling of her name has immense potential for her.
Nushrratt’s father has always been inclined towards his creative side. He can act, sing, and paint, and he encouraged Nushrratt to reach out to her creative side. He did theatre acting & took her for a workshop in acting just for her enjoyment. She liked it and got involved in theatre acting. Comparing theatre acting with acting for movies, she says that acting at a stretch without any retake is more difficult.
Nushrratt Bharuccha was working as an intern at Red FM and also did theatre acting. While working there, a celeb contest was going on where people had to call & win a blind date with a celebrity. The show did teeny-tiny cheating. They made her the winner. She talked a bit on the phone with the celebrity to make it seem like they were on a date.
After that, she got a random call for a role from a producer. She went to their office to tell them she was not interested. But they insisted that she meet the producer, and she did. The producer somehow convinced her, and she convinced her parents. She was seen on the screen for the first time in a TV serial called Kittie Party.
She did the show for twelve months and then left it to move towards the big screen. Her debut and the movies after that didn’t do well enough until Love Sex Aur Dhokha. After that, she collaborated with Luv Ranjan for Pyaar Ka Punchnama (PKP) and got much-awaited appreciation and recognition. She also found her mentor in the film industry through this film.
Initially, when the offer came to her, she rejected it. She told Luv that she couldn’t relate to the character and doubts whether such a character exists. Ranjan told her it’s a comedy & has nothing to do with real life. After a bit more discussions, all her apprehensions were cleared, and she was onboard.
When PKP happened, she didn’t have any other work. She attributes this to her not being in a particular heroine’s bracket, doing only one genre of films. She came into the industry with a clear vision to perform and have meaty roles. One dance, one song, and two three scenes won’t satisfy her. She is not in the industry for stardom and luxury. She’s here for her love for acting.
She is an actress who has done greyish, caricaturish roles in films. After PKP2, she was acknowledged in the industry as an actress who can deliver. The way she presented those characters to the audience, they don’t hate her or the character. For her character as Sweety Sharma, she isn’t hated by people. Instead, they feel bad for her.
Personally, box office collections don’t bother her as long as she’s a part of the films she likes. To her, box office results are mere numbers. But she says the statement would be wrong because the producer expects her to bring money when getting onboard in a film. So she says that her definition of box office doesn’t matter; audiences’ response to her films does.
Nushrratt Bharuccha went for the auditions for the role of Lathika in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. But Boyle told her that she was too good-looking for the film. She didn’t look slum-mish enough. Nushrratt was confused about whether to take that as a compliment or rejection. But her highlight from that film is that she did lines with Boyle, him playing Dev, and her, Lathika. He gave the script to her to read and asked for her feedback.
She also auditioned for Student of the Year. She performed for Karan Johar and got rejected.
Nushrratt was also offered Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl, but then she couldn’t do it as she was busy shooting PKP at the time.
Nushrratt Bharuccha is an actress whose journey in the industry has been full of struggles, but she made it through. The actress now enjoys stardom and receives a lot of love from her fans. Her performances reflect her caliber and skills, which always seem better than her previous work.
