Chris Gayle thanks India and PM Modi for sending COVID-19 vaccines to Jamaica.

Chris Gayle, the Jamaican cricketer who plays international cricket matches for the West Indies cricket team, recently recorded a video thanking India and PM Modi for sending COVID-19 vaccines to his country. Read on to know more about it.

On 16 January 2021, India started its vaccination drive for COVID-19. The vaccines used are COVAXIN, which is made by the Indian pharma company BioTech, and Covishield, the Oxford-AstraZeneca developed vaccine, which is manufactured in India by the Serum Institute. After the vaccine drive proved successful, the Indian government decided to send vaccines to other countries. This humanitarian initiative is named ‘Vaccine Maitri’.

Under the Vaccine Maitri initiative, India has supplied more than 58 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines made in India, to about 70 nations till now. One of these nations is Jamaica, where India sent 50,000 doses of vaccines. Following this, cricketer Chris Gayle recorded a video message for India, expressing his gratitude for supplying the vaccines.

In the video, Chris Gayle said, “Honourable Prime Minister Mr Modi, the people of India, and the Government of India, I want to thank you all for your donation of vaccines to Jamaica. We appreciate it, thank you so much. India, I will be seeing you soon. Thanks again.” In IPL 2021, which will be held in India, Chris Gayle will be playing for Kings XI Punjab.

Besides Chris Gayle, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness had also thanked India for sending the vaccines. Expressing his gratitude, he said in his tweet, “Over 50,000 doses of Covishield – AstraZeneca vaccine arrived at the Norman International Airport yesterday afternoon. The Government and people of Jamaica express our gratitude to Prime Minister Modi (@narendramodi) and the people of India.”
