Gulshan Kumar Murder Case: Bombay HC Upholds Conviction Of Dawood Ibrahim’s Aide Abdul Rauf

As per reports, the court upheld Rauf’s conviction and sentence for the music mogul’s murder and conspiracy. Read on.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed an appeal filed by Dawood Ibrahim’s aide, Abdul Rauf, challenging his conviction in the murder case of Gulshan Kumar. Kumar was the founder of the Music Label company T-Series. As per reports, the court upheld Rauf’s conviction and sentence for the music mogul’s murder and conspiracy. The court also clarified that Rauf will not be entitled to any remission during the term he serves in prison.

For the uninitiated, T-Series’ Gulshan Kumar was murdered on August 12, 1997. As per reports, he was coming out of a temple in Juhu, when three assailants fired as many as 16 bullets at him following which he died on spot. Rauf was charged for his murder and sentenced to a life term imprisonment in 2002. As per a leading daily, he had first fled after the murder but was later captured in the year 2001.

The daily claims that Rauf had appealed against his conviction the same year he was sentenced to life imprisonment. At the time, he was charged for ‘murder, criminal conspiracy, robbery, and possession of arms.’ The report also suggests that the court decided he will not be entitled to leniency based on his past criminal records.

Apart from this,  the Bombay high court also upheld the acquittal of Ramesh Taurani. He was a business rival to Gulshan Kumar and has been arrested for conspiring his murder. The police also named another music composer, Nadeem Akhtar Saifee, for conspiring Kumar’s murder. According to the leading daily, Saifee managed to escape the arrest and absconded to the United Kingdom.
